I was thinking Carter or Bernier would come out I'm shocked it's Sykora

I think he may want to keep them for their "toughness"

Sykora out? hmm... got to read more about it. I don't mind the move I'm just shock it came this quick... or maybe time just flew by since we started reading about JJ & Tallinder skating.

Come on JJ, time bring the pain!

JJ wasn't exactly showing up on the score sheet either though, so I'm indifferent about the change

Well JJ was coming on towards the end of the season... he got in, i think 2 or 3 goals with a few assists before falling out. But his actual play and assertion of his impact on the ice was rising and improving from my POV.

He was active and being more aggressive towards the net.

Plus he has legs of a 21 yr old and not a 35+year old one....

Yea, but now he's missed time and who knows how long before he gets going again

Perhaps timing yes, but if he's been practicing the same scheme/system we're currently employing, I shouldn't see it as a concern. The coaches wouldn't have made the switch if they didn't see something useful(speed/endurance/muscle/etc...)

Whatever gets us going, we need the 3rd/4th lines to really make the Rangers backpedal.

It was said the coaches liked his forecheck and cycling before he got injured and is why he was put in tonight for Sykora.....which I think has been a great move thus far.

JJ didnt shy away from contact, he was confident and his speed showed....

Another solid move by Deboer....

JJ reminds me sooo much of ZPar when he first broke in and was on the lower lines. Obv JJ hasn't scored anywhere near Zach's rookie season, but you can see a lot of similarities in the play style, the defensive commitment, etc, etc.

Sykora's great and big reason we're here, BUT, JJ did sooo much tonight. Sykora has been losing his shifts late in games where the Devils are winning because he doesn't have the wheels all playoffs.

Hopefully Tallinder is busting his ass right now trying to get in game shape.

Agreed Sykora helped us get to where we are but I think father time (age) has caught up which is why he looses his wheels late in the game.
Having Sykora rest up is a plus for us too.

If Tallinder can step in much like how JJ did, then great. However, being off for much longer period of time than JJ, I think there will be some 'rust' in his game.

I hate to be negative, but the same thing happened when he was on the Pens during one of their long playoff runs. He basically ran out of gas during the end of the regular season and playoffs.

Who would Tallinder replace though? Harold most likely right?

I would try to save Tallinder for gm 6, if he clears physically....

JJ was all over the ice, in a good way. It was clear he had the freshest legs on the ice. There were a few times where he was flying up ice to the point where he would look for the guy with him entering the zone and realize they were still catching up. We needed that spark in that game. This is the great thing about having depth, the ability to keep guys fresh.
