Weird move. Hopefully someone claims him.

The move is unexpected, in part because the Patriots could wind up assuming a larger salary-cap charge ($3.6 million) than they would have if they had kept him on the roster ($1.9 million). That would change if another team claims Easley on waivers.

Easley was a possible top 10 pick before he tore his ACL in college. Just can't stay healthy.

I'm sure we'll draft more injury prone players this year to.

The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe says that the Patriots had concerns with Dominique Easley's knees and that there is "not a lot of room for improvement" on that front. CSNNE's Tom Curran says there were "philosophical difference on following injury programs." CBS's Jason La Canfora says the Patriots have off the field concerns with Easley that led to the release. NFL Insider Aaron Wilson reports that Easley is facing a lawsuit after his dog allegedly bit someone.

Easley also apparently "recorded himself speeding and weaving through traffic on a highway" and uploaded it to Instagram two weeks ago, if this Reddit post is correct (the Instagram post has since been deleted).

The culmination of all of these issues are what led to the release of Easley, and are probably why the Patriots couldn't find a trade partner for a player of Easley's caliber.

Dominique Easley Cut By Patriots Because Of Off-Field Issues, Not Play
by Doug Kyed on Wed, Apr 13, 2016 at 6:03PM

It was fair to question why the New England Patriots released Dominique Easley on Wednesday, giving up on a first-round draft pick after just two seasons.

It appears Easley was released because of off-field issues, not for his performance on the defensive line.

CSNNE.com’s Tom E. Curran reported Easley was released because of “philosophical differences on following injury programs, etc.” CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora reported the release was “not a pure performance/football matter. Off field issues related to the decision to part w/ former top pick.” FoxSports.com’s Peter Schrager reported the release was “more for off-field reasons than on. Nothing specific, at the moment.”

NESN.com confirmed through a league source the reports that Easley’s release is related more to off-field issues than on-field play. He was a solid contributor in 2015 as a third-down interior rusher before his season ended prematurely because of a quad injury suffered in Week 14.

Easley is facing a lawsuit in Palm Beach County (Fla.), the National Football Post’s Aaron Wilson reported Wednesday after the release. Wiley Brown alleges Easley’s dog bit him on April 25. Brown is seeking $15,000 in damages from Easley for suffering “bodily injury, pain and suffering, disability, disfigurement, scarring, mental anguish, medical bills, loss of enjoyment of life, all of said injures are permanent within a reasonable degree of medical probability.”

The lawsuit states Easley was “negligent in failing to restrain his dog, failing to leash the dog and-or keep the dog restrained and negligent in failing to keep a dangerous dog from biting plaintiff.”

The dog bite thing must be a effort at being funny. Nobody cuts a player over his dog biting someone.

If I had to guess, I'd say that Easley is not or has not followed the medical protocol following knee surgery. Belichick is a stickler for following the protocols that the doctors and the team trainers have in place following any surgery. Easley was excused his rookie season because of the knee and was on close watch to make sure it didn't get damaged again. He got hurt last year and from the way things are being written, didn't agree with what the training staff wanted him to do. If the other stories are true about his behavior away from Gillette, BB may have just had enough.

BB likely had enough when you combine everything. Itxs likely he's rolling the dice now hoping someone picks him up. The more they drum up off field issues the more likely a team would pick him up. If it's his knees not so much.

So BB rolls the dice. Allows him to look in a deep defensive draft for e replacement. BB probally took into account Easley's being on IR
doesn't help the team either.

Please Bill avoid the injured players during this draft. PLEASE???

I think someone will pick him up off waivers and give him another shot. It teams knew he was going to be waived, then why make a trade w/NE. This now certainly changes up the draft. WR/RB no longer concern in Rd2. Look for DT and ILB now.

The latest report on Easley makes him sound like a major off field problem. This may make it difficult to find a team willing to pick him up on waivers, even those that seem to specialize in taking on this type of problem.

Why in hell would you draft a DL? We can't keep all of the ones we already have.

Kearse, Frank DE
Long, Chris DE
Ninkovich, Rob DE
Branch, Alan DT
Brown, Malcom DT
Flowers, Trey DT
Grissom, Geneo DE
Kitchen, Ishmaa'ily DE
Kuhn, Markus DE
Sheard, Jabaal DE
Vellano, Joe DT
Jones, Chris DT
Knighton, Terrance DT

I said DT, not DE. They only have Brown signed for next yr. Knighton and Branch are only here for this yr. I will gladly take a DT in this draft over Kearse, Kitchen, Kuhn, Vellano. Can't go into next season with just Brown as you DT.

Creep, I understand what you're saying, but drafting a DL means either cutting and experienced DL to work with a rookie or putting him on the practice squad where another team can offer him a roster spot on the 53 man roster.
The toughest part is drafting a kid and then hoping he's as good or better than what you already have.
