The New England Patriots have signed free-agent wide receiver Nate Washington, the team announced Thursday. Terms of the deal were not immediately available.

Washington, 32, played last season for the Houston Texans, who are coached by former New England offensive coordinator Bill O'Brien and run an offensive system similar to the Patriots.

The Patriots hosted Washington on a free-agent visit March 14, as they looked to add another pass-catching target after signing Chris Hogan to a three-year, $12 million contract three days earlier.

In addition to Washington and Hogan, the Pats currently have Julian Edelman, Danny Amendola, Keshawn Martin, Aaron Dobson, Chris Harper and DeAndre Carter on the receiver depth chart.

With Washington signed, can a trade for Amendola be far away?

ugh...I actually like the signing. I think he can help. There will be some comp in camp this yr. Might come down to Dobson or Washington.

If Amendola doesn't re-work his contact then he's out. If he does then its Dobson

Some of you were calling for Washington. Sell me on him......

Well for one he came from Hou under Billy O'B, so he knows the system better than most FA. He is a bigger WR, sort of like LaFell. He has always played with shitty QB's. I think he can be that guy who will fight for the ball and have better hands than LaFell.

Having played with shitty QBs makes for a perfect fit with Tawmmy Brady ~Hammer~

Washington is 6-1, 185 so he has a little height. He potentially moves in to the #3 WR spot, especially if BB trades or releases Dola. Remember, he and Cannon take up $10M of cap space. If they are both traded or cut, the Pats recoup about $6.5 M of that amount. I still think the Browns might be a good trading partner. They need both targets and protection for RGIII, especially if Gordon is not available.
