Per ESPN approx. 1:00 PM 1/5/2016

Adan Schecter is reporting that the New England Patriots have give Defensive Coordinator Matt Patricia permission to interview for the Cleveland Browns Head Coach position.

Patricia and Josh McDaniels were told they could NOT interview for the Miami Dolphins HC position.

No surprise that BB refused to let Phins interview McDaniels or Patricia. Out here, word is that Doug Marrone is #1 on the Browns' list for HC. I am hearing McDaniels might be interested in the job with the Giants.

Pretty sure the rules in the NFL are that a team cannot block a Coordinator from interviewing for a Head Coaching job. They can block a coordinator from being interviewed for another coordinator position. The NFL views it as you are either the Head Coach or the Coordinator. They view such as the Defensive Coordinator on the same level as the Secondary coach. So again even if you are wanting to move from Secondary coach to Defensive Coordinator a team can choose to block that. The Bengals did that last year when the Broncos wanted to hire one of their coordinators to be their Defensive Coordinator.

Again though for the Head Coaching job a team cannot stop a coordinator from going and interviewing. Now they might have the right to block it while that team is still playing though.

I'm pretty sure they can block the interview if they are in the playoffs.

hahaha... You can't interview with the Dolphins. Love it!

I would love to see Patricia remain with the Patriots.... But he does deserve a shot

True.. they can only block him WHILE they are still in .. IF or when the Pats fall or if they win the SB, then they can no longer block him from the Dolphins.. but then again.. why the HELL would anyone want to coach the Dolphins LOL

Unfortunately, Pats' assistants don't have very long tenures as head coaches in the NFL (McDaniels, Mangini and Crennel). College head coaches fare much better (the only one I can think of who washed out was Weis).

Word is that McDaniels wants the Titans job.

Last thing being spoken was that Patricia does not want a head coaching job yet but will interview for the experience.

O'Brian washed out of the playoffs his first go around.
Better luck to him next year. Another game like that though and he won't get many chances.

Don't do it Matt. What if anything good can come out of a HC job in Cleveland?

5 Years $25M is one thing and a chance to run your own team. Can't blame him for taking an opportunity.
