Rounds 1 & 2 best available DE, LB or S.

Ya know...I look back and think you're right. We only have one DE under contract (Flowers) and Nink retiring. DO they hit the market or sign Long, J.Sher and draft...this is going to be interesting. Same thing with LB. IF HT goes (and I think he does) that leaves you with Van Noy, Shea, Roberts, Freeny. Very thin and not that talented. Going to be an interesting off season.

They need someone who can apply pressure on the QB consistently. Or at least when the D calls for it. They're stout enough just need a player or two with some quicks.
After that potential TE or RB. Unless they think there is a quality Olinemen. Or take a chance on a couple Olinemen later in the draft.

I think if HT doesn't price himself out he'll be back.

Still there are some big names early on in the draft so if you can convince the Browns to part with some high picks then hard to turn that down unless you really think Jimmy G is top-5 caliber. I'm sure the Patriots will sell him that way and I'm sure some team will bite if the Patriots really want to pull the trigger.

If the Patriots don't get the deal they want, they'll just keep Jimmy G. I like Garrapollo but playing for a team with a coaching staff like the Patriots (i.e. well schooled in maximizing players) would make me leery of Jimmy G outside the Patriots umbrella.

Well there is a history now of QB's that have found success with the Patriots and then floundered everywhere else. That is part of why if I were the Patriots I would be ok with trading him for a nice draft haul. The team has shown they know how to develop QB's to do well in their system. And some of it will depend what they think of the youngest QB on the roster and his development. Some could depend on who the new OC will be and what type of QB they like. Very interesting time for our 2 teams when it comes to coaching staff changes that could be coming.

They've had some success but their share of stinkers too. You need something to work with. Garrapolo seems to be more than than that so he's worth more than a 2nd rounder to the Pats. And he may be beyond the usual Brian Hoyer/Matt Cassel type but multiple picks with a 1st rounder? I still don't know. While the Patriots may not want to give him up for cheap, it doesn't mean Jimmy G is really starter material. So yeah a 1st rounder+ would make me think.

Here are 4 guys on the practice squad that will definitely be moving up to the 53 man roster.

35 Gaffney, Tyler RB 6-0 220

47 Gronkowski, Glenn FB 6-3 234

16 Lucien, Devin WR 6-2 200

17 White, DeAndrew WR 6-0 192

Don't need no FA WR or RB.

Team will have somewhere between $66M-$70M to re-sign their own players and to dip into the FA market to carefully select a couple of 29-30 year olds who just want to stay and play and not break the bank. Give Scarneccia a couple of "middle of road" OT an he'll turn them into All Pros. A back or two on the DL and LB and this team is ready for 2017. Draft will be 'future critical'.

Agree on Gaffney and Lucien, disagree on Gronkowski. No idea on White.

Whole RB situation would change if we get McCaffrey.....

McCaffrey is built more like a third down/change of pace runner and the Pats already have Lewis, Foster and White. I know Lewis has injury issues, Foster is still green and White is basically a receiver, but, especially if Blount prices himself out of BB's salary range, we need a big back who can pound the ball up the middle. Gaffney can maybe do that. Also Glenn Gronkowski who, at 6-3, 235, has enough skills to be a consistent running back, move tight end or H back. If the Pats resign Floyd, wide receiver could get pretty crowded, making it difficult for Lucien, White or a rookie to break into the lineup.

Some decisions you make and some are made for you.
Injuries, player decisions, money, player capabilities all have a hand.
Glen is a tight end/fullback - not a RB
Gaffney and McCaffrey are 3 down backs (or may be)
Foster is green and growing, Blount might take the money, room will be scarce.
If we take McCaffrey, it will be early or too late and he will start......

Have to get through FA before we can talk draft. This team has some holes coming up that need to be filled. We literally have 1 DE signed after this yr, Flowers. J.Sher, Long, Nink (retire), Mingo are all FA. I like Long, but will not break the bank for him, same goes with Sher. We need DE help. Branch is a FA, if he leaves, we need another DT. HT is FA along with Harmon, Ryan. To many FA to even think about draft..

Long
Sher
Nink
Branch
HT
Mingo
Ryan
Harmon

These guys all play some big roles on this team...going to be interesting for sure.

Agree with a lot of this. But your draft strategy also feeds FA and who you try and retain and who you don't.

I agree 100%. I think BB tries and adds starters through FA and adds their backup/future starter in the draft. Then again we can take a S in the 2nd rd that should have gone in the 6th...LOL. That Richards pick....MAN!!!

Talking about Jordan Richard got me thinking about who NE missed out on. Players taken after Richards:

Lockett
Tevin Coleman
Duke Johnson
Jordan Hicks
David Johnson
Danielle Hunter

Jordan Richards is a great athlete. He's very smart and a great teammate. He has been unable to find a place as a starter, mainly because of injuries. He's a very cheap backup and ST's player at this point. What he will be when (if) he is able to stay healthy, remains to be seen. He appears to have been a reach but he will get his opportunity to stick around - mainly because he is smart enough to get thrown in and not screw the pooch.....

Creep, I actually broke laughing out loud when I read this.......................

How many teams have actually said the same thing about the 198 players taken BEFORE Tom Brady? How many players drafted in 1999, other than Tom Brady, are still playing in the NFL?

Same every year, you win some, you lose some...........

I hear ya, but it was 2am and I was board, so I was curious. No one major, still have to see how he pans out. Shit this team took Brandon Tate over Antonio Brown....

CBS Sports reported today that Garappolo will be traded before the draft in April. I've been kind of looking around at mock drafts and it appears most of them think Christian McCaffrey will be a Patriot with their pick at #32. I don't think BB will pick him there. Maybe Round 3 if he's still available.

I sent Nick Caserio an email and told him that he needs to send someone to talk to Anthony Wales and make sure that BB gets some of his game tapes/discs.

Unless McCaffrey suffers some kind of crazy injury or just completely bombs his interviews he won't make it past the middle of the 2nd round. Throw in not only is the kid talented but he will get a huge boost from how well Hill did for the Chiefs. Teams are going to be looking for those players that can do multiple things well and well McCaffrey improves RB, Slot WR, and PR for any team that drafts him.

Having said all that I do agree I don't think the Pats draft him in the 1st. They already have White and Lewis for that 3rd down/Slot WR type position. Most are just putting him there because well the Pats have a monopoly on quick smaller players.

If the Pats do trade Garoppolo to the Browns, I hope they get one of Cleveland's two second round choices (and also a third rounder either this year or next). That choice might be a good spot to pick McCaffrey. In the first round, I feel a pass rushing DE/OLB is the most important potential hole to fill.

Walter #32........................Adoree Jackson CB/KR USC
#64........................Delvin Tomlinson DT Alabama
