Everything rides on what TB12s plan is? If he's staying more than a year they have to deal Jimmy G. They can't afford both. Jacoby Brisett was a nice surprise. What a difference having a mobile QB is. So I say trade JG while his stock is high, assuming Brady plays 2 more years. Develop Brisett and see if you can find another TB in the draft?

Sounds as good of a plan as any. With guys like Brady it really is hard to know exactly when they will hit that wall and just completely fall off. I couldn't believe the way Manning played after his neck surgery to then 3 years later watch as one of the greats just completely fell apart. Dan Marino is another that comes to mind that just fell off a cliff. Still with the way that Brady takes care of himself it would not shock me to see him still playing at an MVP level for another couple of years.

You never know. Again that nice cushion is at worst case having Brisett playing on his rookie contract for another 3 years. If NE had to go to him it's not terrible. Assuming he has no issues from his thumb surgery?

Yeah he definitely showed some flashes of ability when healthy so not a bad option. I've always liked the idea of a QB that can do something with their feet. I loved what Manning could do but there were plays where he had no one in front of him for 20 yards and nope wouldn't take off running for a first down.

If Brady has no serious injuries I can definitely see him playing effectively for another two seasons. In that case, trading Garoppolo and grooming Brissett seems like a smart move. I remember seeing Charlie Conerly playing effectively for the NY Giants at age 40, so this is not unheard of. In the upcoming draft, I feel the Pats need to get a left tackle to groom as a replacement for Solder, a big running back to supplant Blount and a tight end to act as depth (especially if Bennett doesn't return). Scruggs and Williams should be back off IR to compete as the blocking tight end. Williams might get a look at left tackle as well.

Brady's contract runs through 2020. He's a $28M cap hit in 2017. They ain't gonna pay JG Franchise money at $18M to back up Tommy. He'll be gone before the end of the of the first round of the 2017 draft.

There's just not a lot of other choices - that's why we took Brissett.
Brissett was green as hell and looked like someone who can play the game.
I suspect we try to restructure Brady, trade Garapolo, keep Brissett at #2 and draft another rookie.....

Can't restructure Brady. He's already collecting $130M through 2020. If you restructure you add guaranteed money that will most likely be dead money after 2020. You pay him his guaranteed money and give him one year contracts until he's my age (67). Then trade him to the Jets for a 3 year $6B contract and the Jets next 8 first round picks 2044 thru 2052.

Edelman, Hogan, Mitchell, Floyd and Amendola for 2017 looks like a more dominating a WR group than 2007.
While maybe not as fast as Moss and Stallworth, the combo as a whole looks much better than Welker, Moss, Stallworth, Gaffney, Washington.
They need to resign Floyd, and restructure Danny A, again.

That's without Bennett and Gronkowski and Lengel.
Much better than Watson, Thomas and Brady (Kyle).

Evans, Faulk, Maroney and Morris or Devlin, White, Lewis and Blount?
Again, this years looks much better. They need to resign Blount. I know he has some years on him, but I believe he has a couple more in him. These guys look scary for 2017.

OL, in my opinion, is the only place on offense that "needs" any upgrade. And it is not bad by any means with Scar coaching them.

All skills position could essentially carry over and be scary good.

I would love to see what Tyler Gaffney has to offer in 2017. He nearly made the roster in 2016. Also, I find Baby Gronk fascinating as either a move TE or a FB/H back. Blount may want to test the FA market so these two guys could be valuable additions.

I don't think Amendola will be back. The can hit on someone in the draft and groom them behind the other WR. I think JE, Hogan, MM, Floyd with a FA/rookie WR would be pretty nice (BB only dresses 4 WR). I think they need to look at TE and RB the most. If they don't resign Marty B then TE becomes the #1 issue on this team. S and CB, depending on what happens with Ryan and Harmon. OL is the least of this teams worries. They have Tre Jackson coming back, Waddle and Jamile Douglas on the PS. Karras has been active also. RB has to be an option this yr. Blount is older, you can bring him back of course, but would like to see someone being groomed behind him and Lewis.

Interesting story...when the Patriots drafted Wilfork, BB was dead set on drafting Steven Jackson at that pick. Once Vince lasted to NE, BB had to take Vince at that time. After the pick BB tried very hard to jump back into the 1st rd and take Jackson, but Stl jumped them. It was funny because that was the yr they traded for Corey Dillion. Rumor was that NE was trading for Dillon anyway and wanted him to groom Jackson. BB loved Jackson in that draft, just not as much as Vince, LOL....Imagine though if we has Jackson for the SB vs the Giants. Might have been a different outcome. Pass rush would not have been not as bad if they had to account for Jackson....I remember losing Morris for that game...kind of hurt.

Curious...what do you think about Brandon Marshall as a FA pick up??

Interesting story about Steven Jackson. Too bad he was pretty much used up by the time BB got him late last season. I personally don't see Brandon Marshall as a Patriot. He would probably want a hefty salary and I feel there is something off setting about him. Hopefully, BB can hold onto Floyd and either draft a developmental WR or elevate a PS member (Lucien or White). As for TE, the guy from Michigan (6'-6", 265) might be available in the third round due to his ACL injury (he would have probably been a high first round choice). BB did the same thing with Gronk, who was injured in college and missed his senior season.

Rounds 1 & 2 best available DE, LB or S.

The TE you are referring to is Jake Butt. I don't think he makes it to the third round. It would be great to have him.

I don't like BM as a free agent. He has already said that he would entertain an offer for a 1 year rental to get a SB Ring, "But they are not my team".

Screw him.

Neat story about Jackson. Too bad it did not work out.

Here are 4 guys on the practice squad that will definitely be moving up to the 53 man roster.

35 Gaffney, Tyler RB 6-0 220

47 Gronkowski, Glenn FB 6-3 234

16 Lucien, Devin WR 6-2 200

17 White, DeAndrew WR 6-0 192

Don't need no FA WR or RB.

Team will have somewhere between $66M-$70M to re-sign their own players and to dip into the FA market to carefully select a couple of 29-30 year olds who just want to stay and play and not break the bank. Give Scarneccia a couple of "middle of road" OT an he'll turn them into All Pros. A back or two on the DL and LB and this team is ready for 2017. Draft will be 'future critical'.

The TE you are referring to is Jake Butt. I don't think he makes it to the third round. It would be great to have him.

He was a late round 2 pick before injury. Most likely drops him to the 5th round or later. He is going to miss all or at least most of next season recovering from this injury. So you are looking at a guy that you only have for 3 years.

On top of that he honestly regressed this last season. He had a better season last year as a receiver and especially as a run blocker.

There are other TE’s scouts are much higher on because of a higher ceiling.
