Former NHL coach Pat Burns dies of cancer at the age of 58

They are reporting again that Pat has passed. This makes him not getting into the Hall this year even sadder.

Former NHL head coach Pat Burns passed away Friday after a lengthy battle with lung cancer. He was 58-years-old.

It was his third battle with the disease after first being diagnosed with colon cancer back in the 2003-04 NHL season, followed by liver cancer in 2005.

the 93 Leafs/Kings series is in my mind the best series I have ever seen. Pat and Melrose were a big part of that.

I'll always remember what he did for Daneyko in 2003 as well as his response to the media afterwards.

I can only think of a handfull of coaches that made me chuckle almost every game I watched. He was one. Besides being highly animated, his fight and passion were second to none.

You will live forever in the Hall and on the Stanley Cup........ not many in this world get that.
