Nearly 60 percent of all NFL champions since 1940 ranked No. 1 or No. 2 in Passer Rating Differential; 90 percent ranked in the top 5.

That could be great news for the Green Bay Packers, who dominated the indicator in 2011, much like they did in 2010. In fact, Green Bay has finished No. 1 in Passer Rating Differential six times since 1960. It has won the NFL championship or Super Bowl all six years.

SF ranks 6th out of the playoffs teams with 17.89.

they key is to disrupt a top qb so that they don't have a good day. when i looked at qb 'quality starts', the playoffs more often than not came down to which qb could have a good day.

is our d good enough to disrupt the saints or packers? is our offense good enough to take advantage of defenses that appear average?

This might not be that important, but Alex Smith's 91.5 QB rating is a hell of a lot closer to the Saints(86.4) and Packers(80.6) Defensive ratings... than Brees(110.5) and Rodgers(122.6) is to the 49ers Defense(73.6)

So, if their defenses stay true to form, the 49ers offense won't suffer much... but... if the 49ers defense stays true to form, their offenses will suffer greatly.
