Of course. What other outcome do people expect with you know who running this dog and pony show?

If I"m reading that right, Papelbon is saying that in order for Papelbon to approve the deal they would have to guarantee his 13 million dollar vesting option for 2016. I say fuck Papelbon. Make Giles the closer and don't let him finish his 48 games so they don't have to pay him in 2016.

I think they'd at least have to give him the opportunity to win 48 games per the contract. So someone will have to pay him.

not much you can do if the brewers want the phils to pay the majority of the contract. papelbon isn't howard. he can still play.. very well actually despite his drop in velocity. better to just hold on and take your chances up to the deadline. multiple teams always need closer help.

I wish...but not playing him would only hurt his value and diminish any return we can get back for him.

This is the pattern. We have players that the way he contracts are structured put the Phils in a bind to trade them and rebuild. Paplebon is the most recent example, Howard is another. These contracts eminate from this FO and it has done nothing but hamstring the club from rebuilding. We are beyond blame here. We are that point of planned paralysis which is exactly what the Phils are going to get for years to come.

Well maybe the Jays will decide they want Paplebon and the Phils will have a blind squirrel/eggcorn moment.

It has been said that the blue Jays only have about 7 million to spend. That means the Phillies would have to eat around 12 million over the two years left in his contract. Which means the Jays would have to part with a solid prospect or two in order to get the Phillies interested. I think the Brewers are in a similar situation as well.

Yea, I am sure of it northeast. It is the magnitude of these contracts that have us so limited and of course, we all know where the responsibility of that lies. Our paralysis is the product of just some monumental braindead contracts transactions and of course we all know the rest.

There is nothing better than a Philies contract. (For the player that is.) Small market teams do not have
those issues. The Phillies have a way of giving things away. I do not blame the players but I do blame the
GM for poor negotiating. The no trade clauses, the options and buyouts are often a cog in the wheel.

Yep, I agree. Unfortunately their approach has produced zero rebuilding worth a damn, zero development of a potential perennial winner, and zero championships. All they have done is behave like a santa claus for players and what exactly is the purpose related to anything remotely resembling the rebuilding of an aging franchise? The paralysis we now see is the result of this dysfunctional, braindead idiot who has been given the reigns to a franchise with whom he has no earthly business being involved with at any stretch of the imagination.
