I could be wrong, but I'm not sure Harbaugh is quick to add a Pete Carol guy to his team....

The Palmer/Carroll connection is there, but the more important one for the Niners is Palmer and David Dunn. That's Palmer, Harbaugh, and Baalke (their GM's)agent. They could already have a handshake deal for a backup QB contract worked out at this point.

La Canfora said Palmer turned down a chance to get traded to AZ because he wants to go a winner (i'm guessing the Niners). Schefter said there's almost no chance he goes there too. King still sounds positive it happens (maybe Palmer's refusing to go there to drive up his asking price?). He wrote an article on the Flynn and Palmer trades. everything makes sense. on an a side note, if all these teams need tackles I'm suprised Andre Smith isn't getting a better look on the open market... Carson Palmer to Arizona Cardinals, Matt Flynn to Oakland Raiders moves make sense, but they're not guaranteed fixes - NFL - Peter King - SI.com

No team will trade for him at his current salary. And the way it's going, Carson will not agree to a pay cut for any trade scenario. Why would he when he can land with the same team as a FA.

I'm having a hard time seeing a trade in any scenario. I think those 4 or 5 teams Florio is mentioning are interested in Carson as a FA, not under a trade. Peter King is the only one who still believes a trade will happen. I think his sources are a little slow.

Jay Glazer‏@JayGlazer20s
Again, w Flynn trade getting signed today Oak now working to finalize a trade to send Carson Palmer to Cardinals

Jay Glazer‏@JayGlazer7m
The 2 picks the Raiders sent for Flynn are in 2014 and 2015 draft. Both are later rounds

Jay Glazer‏@JayGlazer1h
OAK has traded 2 picks to Seattle for Matt Flynn, will sign papers on it this AM & now trying to finalize Carson Palmer to AZ for late pick

I think he balked at an Arizona trade because he wants to win. Arizona has talent, but the NFC West is too tough to win big in right now.

I do think he'd accept a trade/restructre to the right team.

The Bucs are really, really interesting team to me.

edited- blah, guess he's going to Az

Why would AZ trade now? Oakland has to get rid of him now so couldn't they just wait and not give up a pick?

to block him from FA

I think AZ is his best option. I realize it's a tough division, but he would be the clear starter in the desert and I think he would be a great fit for Arians offense.

This I agree with. They have talent and won 7 games.

Wasn't it just a year or two ago that people were talking about Josh Freeman as a future star in this league?

If they land a good OT in the top 10, i think he can put up probowl numbers.. especially if Michael Floyd lives up to his draft billing..

but I don't think he can win there.. making the playoffs out of that division means you're a SB contender

Report: Palmer wanted to go to Tampa | ProFootballTalk

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, those who know Palmer believe he wanted to land in Tampa, as the backup (and potential replacement) for Josh Freeman. “Doesn’t look that way now,” Schefter observes.

This made more sense than trying to replace Kaepernick in SF. I don't think there's any question he beats out Freeman.

And given the fact that Palmer is agreeing to a trade to Arizona tells me that Oakland's brass threatened to hold him until training camp and first team reps would be going to Flynn.

Mike Silver says it's a mid rd pick. Tampa must have been offering something too for that type of compensation on a player they'd have to cut anyway...

Maybe not as good a spot as Tampa, but he'll have some good yrs there if they help out their line
