again ... he talks about a players injury ... because it all ended so well with Coho

On whether Ryan Kesler’s shoulder injury was the reason for his offensive struggles: “That was not in our mind the reason for his diminished production. That shoulder wasn’t 100%, but our medical staff and Ryan did a great job of maintaining the strength. The injury wasn’t the reason his production fell. His rehab, and the way stayed on top of that, permitted him to play at the same pace that he was used to. But for whatever reason, and those are things we’re looking into, his performance slipped this year and we’ve got to get on top of that and get him back to where he was before that.”

this is going over really well with keslers agent

Kurt Overhardt, the agent for Ryan Kesler clearly wasn't impressed by the comments of Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault regarding his client.

Overhardt told The Province on Thursday: “I am not a doctor, I'm a lawyer, but after having conversations with the player and with the club, anyone who thinks this injury did not affect his play must have fallen off a turnip truck.”

So, he wasn't 100% healthy. And his performance slipped. But we're not sure why?

A true mystery!!

There certainly seems to be a disconnect (i.e. people not telling the whole story) between Kesler, the Canucks training staff, and AV. Is Kesler trying to be a warrior and playing through an injury? Are training staff personnel not relaying the severity of the injury to AV (or possibility a mis-diagnosis of how severe the injury really was?)

Not that we're probably ever going to know the whole story, but obviously this situation could have been handled much better.

Lol. Rumor has it they've hired the people searching for the "real killers" of OJ's wife and the murderer of Casey Anthony's child. Details coming...

...

...well, never.

he just should shut his yap about this stuff ... this shit is what soured Camp Coho on the franchise

it just astonishes me that he doesnt want to acknowledge that Kesler had a second pretty serious injury coming off an offseason when he had another pretty serious injury that prevented him from training (1000 shots per day!!!) ... talk about sabotaging personal relationships!!!

I don't get the upside for AV to call out Kessler. Does he think it will motivate him to play better or does he just like to read his own quotes in the paper the next morning?

I don't specifically think it was a calling out.

Kesler's post season interviews were all about "the shoulder injury is not an excuse"
Now when AV says the same thing, people jump all over him.

If Kesler's shoulder was so bad (in Ferbruary!), he shouldn't have been playing. Also, it seems Kes' bad shoulder didn't really impede him from diving.
And it's not like his production dropped a bit... he got 4 goals in his last 33 games, despite being posted in the crease on the first unit powerplay.
Honestly, while I don't think it was Vigneault's intent - Kes does deserve a gentle reminder ... it's been a long fucking time since beast-mode made an appearance and stuck around.
hopefully he'll be healthy next year, and closer to 41 goals than 22.

Players today have it easy... they all deserve to be called out by their coach, manager and fans

/old guy rant

Shit, after a 1st round flameout where Kes was INVISIBLE, with the exception of a splash or two, I thought he got off easy.

on May 24th? with the next game Kesler will play upwards of 6 months away?

and is it gentle to do this using the media?

Its not easy to say "he shouldnt have been playing" when he gets this type of pressure to play from his coach

I just think it was bad form by Vigneault ... and on the expert doctor aspect of it I heard the sound bite of Vigneault again and he makes it sound like the labrum surgery is almost an elective surgery :L

sure you dont want to make excuses ... the player is trained not to make them with the media ( ... ie "I dont want to make excuses ... BUT ... " ) He came into this past season not being able to train and hes gonna go into next season not being able to train hardcore again ... Vigneault is handling this like a live grenade imo
