Cashner is obviously going for a CGSO here.

I'm telling you guys this now and I've been saying it since about all the All-Star break: the Padres are going to battle the Dodgers for the best rotation in the NL West next season, and maybe even the entire NL. Our rotation will be so good next season that Cashner will probably be at best a #2 starter. We will have guys at AAA who can be starters for most MLB teams. Tyson Ross, for one, will be very coveted but will have a hard time making the big league roster as a starter.

I wish this win didn't have to come against the Pirates but hopefully the Rockies will dispatch the fuckin Cards tonight. :hope:

Hurdle cost us another game IMO. Shouldn't have let Burnett out there for the 7th, he has no clue how to manage starting pitchers.

This is our most potent lineup with those guys in the first four slots.

Bucs are countering with a RH heavy lineup:

Pittsburgh Pirates Lineup
LF: Starling Marte
SS: Jordy Mercer
CF: Andrew McCutchen
RF: Marlon Byrd
1B: Gaby Sanchez
C: Russell Martin
3B: Pedro Alvarez
2B: Josh Harrison
SP: Jeff Locke

Starling Marte is making his lineup return tonight after being on the DL since August.

Are the Padres really like 28-10 all time in PNC Park?

Dick Enberg for the Padres drives me INSANE.

Everyone in the world says Gabby Sanchez like it's spelled.

Not Dick. For him it's Gobby san-CHEZ.

He sees a Hispanic name and panics.

At the beginning of the season, I thought Locke was a bum because he had pitched like one last year. Then, as the season progressed, he looked like the next coming of Tom Glavine. Now it looks like he's reverted to his normal self, which resembles a batting practice pitcher. Get him out of there before he does more damage!

Morton looks good early. We need to get him some runs.

At least this year we got to mid-September before the collapse started.

Watching the Padres, and especially their pitchers, puts me in the mind of the Pirates the last couple years. Another bat or two and some maturity, and this team will be contending soon.

But they're not there yet, and we are, so we should be beating them.

It's always the same thing for us in this cycle that small-market teams tend to get in of always needing "a bat." It'll be interesting to see if Quentin can stay healthy next season. No one, I mean no one, is counting on that. Same for Cameron Maybin. You just can't expect anything from those guys.

This Pirates team is starting to make me very nervous. With a Very Hot Reds Team comin in here Friday night, this Padres series is just a killer! This kinda stuff can't happen to a team at home, in September, when you're a team trying to make the playoffs.

Sadly, however, it seems to be happening again.
