I thought they signed him to prep for Kapernick.

He blows but with so many teams using read option QBs it only makes sense to have a guy that can run the scout team in case you have to play Washington, Seattle, San Fran, Carolina, and any other with that style of offense.

I thought that would keep Tebow on the roster as well. I guess Edelman remains the emergency QB in New England.

Vince Young released by Green Bay Packers - ESPN

I still think he is a bust, but every time I say so, I get people telling me he's "not in the right system", and would be a beast if he were.

Wow, after they let Harrell go, I figured he was a shoo-in, but from the article:
Young, 30, played in all four preseason games for the Packers despite limited knowledge of the offense. In his most extensive playing time of the preseason, he completed 14 of 30 passes for 144 yards without a touchdown or interception on Thursday at Kansas City. He fumbled twice, losing one, and led only two scoring drives against the Chiefs, both of which ended with field goals.
Looks like they didn't like what they saw.

The knock has been he is mentally and physically soft. Tough to be a QB with that tag.

So the ONLY backup to Rodgers is B.J. Coleman who has never even dressed for a regular season game before?

They are gambling big time.

Seems odd to release him after cutting Harrell.

They will sign someone else. Coleman will end up on the practice squad

It's being reported that Vince Young is trying out with the Cleveland Browns.

Who are these people? You'll have to explain that, while most of the world thinks football is played with a round ball with rectangular goals, Young plays a completely different American sport.

He and Matt Leinart have got to be the two biggest QB drafts busts coming out the same year. Neither one came close to reaching their potential.

I thought neither were good to begin with. Vince was horribly mediocre throughout much of his college days (as a passer, and running QBs in college.... lol, whatever, they all come into the NFL and get demolished or spy'd. They can take advantage of their athleticism in college, NFL, not so much) and was just taken high because of his bowl performance which is LOL worthy. His throwing motion alone should've spelled out to anyone with football IQ that he was not going to succeed as a passer.

Leinart was a noodle arm much like a lot of the USC QBs and towards the end of his season they criticized his ability to go through progressions.

No surprise from my end that both busted. I wouldn't even call it a bust, they were both mediocre to begin with and just had dumb GMs drafting them.

Interesting thing with Leinart though was his NFL work ethic. Kurt Warner did an interview about trying to work with Leinart after ML was drafted by the Cardinals. Warner talked about the Cardinal coaching staff talking with Leinart about improving his arm strength/mechanics and doing a much better job on his downfield reads. He basically said that Leinart was exceptionally lazy and felt that Leinart assumed that his natural athletic ability would save his ass. He eventually came to the conclusion that Leinart was completely comfortable spending his career picking up a paycheck as a perennial NFL backup QB.
