ASU is the most heavily penalized school in the NCAA. Not that the NCAA is light on any of the PAC schools but they really seem to love laying the penalties down on ASU.
If they go HAM on ASU, it will not go well. ASU didn't do shit besides try to avoid COVID restrictions. There were no agent payments, no money bags, no fake jobs- Nothing. All they did was get recruits on campus- Allegedly. Things totally normal in any other year. If they drop the hammer on that, the NCAA is over. ASU might not seem powerful, but it's one of the biggest fucking schools in the country. If it throws up the fuck the NCAA flag, others will follow.

This isn't an LSU situation, or a UNC situation.

Just give Herm a 1 game ban and be done with it. Bad rule.

Cal deserves a legitimate penalty over ASU. Those fuckers had COVID positive players running out mingling with Cougs pre game before their dumb ass grad doctor read the results. Cal attempted manslaughter on the Cougs.

I think they come out fine. I think they broke the rules at the exact right time so that, if they really push it, they look like champions. They didn't give anyone bags of money. They didn't make a bunch of promises. They met players and showed them a program they believed in- And so did a bunch of programs. I talked to a friend of mine at a B1G program who more or less admitted that they did it too, albeit without the HC involved in the "accidental meeting". Maybe not as obvious, but if/when this goes to trial they're going to seem like Robinhoods. They made sure young, talented athletes got to see the school they wanted to go, regardless of rules and restrictions.

No buying. No purchasing. Just really, really aggressive recruiting by an African American staff for African American players. This isn't a fight the NCAA wants. Mawae, if it was him, probably ruined his coaching career more than he really fucked ASU football up. Nobody, especially the NFL, respects a snitch.
Herm and Pierce won’t be coaching in 2022. They blatantly broke NCAA rules, covered it up and didn’t stop when they originally caught. If ASU chooses to fight the NCAA on this, they will end up like USC back in 2010. If they get rid of the coaches and self impose, penalties will be minimal

They had official visitors during a dead period. You might be new to college football recruiting but that’s a huge no no. They are done

Wishful thinking maybe. Still not sure I think what was described was "wrong". Just against the rules, if that's what actually happened.

Maybe we take it on the chin. Maybe we don't. Still going to kick some ass this season.

There are only two scenarios where ASU makes it out of this with no penalties:

1) The story is inaccurate or incomplete

2) The NCAA is just done enforcing their own rules

Both of those scenarios are plausible.

The funny thing is...with NIL being a thing now, you'd probably be better off if ASU had just paid them. lol

That's what will be most interesting. Now that they can't really go after teams for their players making money...will the NCAA try to ramp up it's "oversight" in other areas and use a heavier hand when doing so?

My guess is it goes to either extreme. They ramp up enforcement in other areas or they just stop enforcing rules altogether. The ASU case will be telling. You have a case where the whole staff, knowingly and repeatedly violated NCAA rules, ignored warnings to stop and tried to cover up evidence. If the NCAA chooses not to enforce these rules, it's signaling that this is going to be the Wild West era of college football.

That's the part that could really get them in trouble. The alleged violations themselves, really don't seem like much and would likely have resulted in a slap on the wrist at most. But when you're warned, don't stop and then try to cover it up...that's an issue.

Agreed. If they stopped after they were warned, this would be nothing

With the PAC 12 luck we’d hitch our wagon to the NCAA as it goes down in flames and the other P4’s secure their own deal with the NFL.

Your statement is totally off-base. If a few players had shown up at ASU, uninvited, and happened to run into some coaches who took some time to talk to them or show them around - and this only happened once or twice - then your take might have some merit. But since they were invited and came in large numbers, and the school continued to flaunt the rules after they were told they were in the wrong, then penalties should be forthcoming. It's just undetermined at this point how severe they might be.

The stark contrast between Lake and Rolo is a great indicator for why WSU will continue to be irrelevant in the Apple Cup.
Makes sense you simple mind would write something like this since you have inferiority complex with Washington.
