It sounds good on paper but this isn't the NFL where you have some level of consistency. You might only have these really good players for two seasons. First year they are learning the system and soph and Jr years they ball out. How much can you change when they will be gone and someone with a different skill set will be there next season. You can't totally change things year to year. I understand what you're saying but I imagine it's not that easy. Coaches have their philosophy and they want to keep it as much as possible.
As fans we can see the results and its easy for us to bitch. With Pentergast I think he just stuck to what he knew without slowly evolving with the new offenses.
It comes down to this:
Can you put the players on the field in the best position to succeed?
