Helton is almost certainly out no matter the outcome of the rest of the season. New AD coming in that won't want to be tied and responsible for giving a stamp of approval for a staff that isn't in high regard to the boosters and supporters of the team that has underperformed given the talent level they have.

Fair? USC is one of the pillars of college football. They aren't simply one of many blue bloods. There is no excuse for that program to be down outside of staff incompetence. Period. Stop. Helton may be a good coach, but is he a USC expectation level coach? I think the answer is pretty clear to most.

For those of you still supporting him I have one question: Had Urban taken that program over at the same point Helton did, do you believe they would still be sputtering along at the same pace they are now at? Come on, the answer is no. They would have recruited better and be at a much higher level.

So the question then is how many USC level coaches exist and are they in the position to get one. If you believe there are better coaches out there you can't possibly support keeping him.

Well, I would answer this post, but you already provided the only answer you find acceptable. So, instead of wasting my time providing an unacceptable answer. I'll just waste my time typing what I just typed. lol

Not a sellout yesterday vs USC but still a good showing (67,000).

While I would expect you to have a much deeper involvement, that isn't always a good thing when evaluating these situations. As fans we sometimes tend to support a failing or falling situation far too long. There were plenty of people still supporting Willingham even toward the end of the 0-12 season for example. :L

I just think USC shouldn't find itself in this many years of trailing given the built in advantages they have in recruiting. Doesn't mean I'm right.

I think the guys been recruiting with one arm tied behind his back this year. Everyone was claiming he had the hottest seat of any coach going into the 2019 season. That's brutal for recruiting since most, if not all, of the existing staff will be gone as well, if they bring in a NFL guy or some other P5 coach/coordinator. Few would want to commit to that until you get an official announcement if he's staying or gone and if gone, who will be replacing him.

USC also had an AD who was on his way out. They need to get the AD situation settled first before the coach thing is addressed. From what I heard, things aren't going so hot in that dept so the egomaniac boosters and delusional fans might need to check their expectations down a few levels right now. They keep acting like it will be a cake walk to replicate the Pete Carroll era because their simply USC. Even with the best built in recruiting advantage of any program in the NCAA, you have to have an exceptional AD and coaching staff to be elite.

This ^^ ... it's what screwed SC in recruiting last season also with all the talk of him being on the hotseat. Between the circus at SC and the fact Chip could give a shit less about recruiting means that UW and Oregon are going to continue to feast on SoCal recruits.

Isn’t that the truth. I was out there with blinders believing Helfrich was Super Duper Coach 9000.

Mariota masked some of Helf’s deficiencies.

I still respect the man though.

UW had 67,000 fans at Saturday's game. What's the most Oregon has had this year?

Wow, USC brought that many fans up? Good for them. Terrible that UW doesn't have the fan support to fill their venue.

What's the largest crowd to view an Oregon game @ Autzen this year?

We have our conference home opener later this week. Oregon likes to play big games outside of Autzen instead of hiding to play joke teams.
