The Sox will need a DH in a couple years... Give him multiple incentive options for a 6th or even 7th year, and I'd be ok with it.

Good way to look at it I guess. I am wondering if the Red Sox finalize this deal.
It might take a while. The Sox were his first team (outside of SF) he talked to. The Padres are throwing their name into the hat. He'll talk to them - and probably the Yanks, too (even if, for no other reason than to try to up the serious offers)...

Decent pickup for sure for the Red Sox but they still need a pitcher.
If the contracts by SF and Boston are close, he will MOST LIKELY stay with SF. I think Boston will need to pay significantly more to pry him from the Giants.
Personally, I fear the long contract with him. Not that I am afraid about the tail end of the deal (although, of course, I always fear the end of long contracts), but because if he gets too comfortable, he will balloon and lose all effectiveness in the early years of the contract.
I think that if he signs a 3 or 4 year deal, he will still have the incentive of another contract to keep him focused during the early years. If he signs a 5-year or longer deal, the incentive to keep himself in shape will simply not be there.
The key is the length of the contract. If Boston wants to go 6 or 7 years, then enjoy...

2 or 3 years would be a good move, but in today's MLB the contracts are too long and taking a chance on a fat ass, roid head out of the Bay area (home of the roid heads) is lunacy. Whoever gives him a 5 year contract should expect him to weigh 325lbs in spring training for the 2017 season.
No roids in Boston?

In the old days of 2-3 year contracts I'd be OK with this, but going long term on a pig like Sandoval makes zero sense. Given that Boston is 3,000 miles from his favorite labooratory (cough, cough BALCO) I think this move is retarded.WEEI is reporting he might be heading to the Red Sox for a 5 years - $80-90 million pay day. They are saying things could come together "quickly."
Good move?
