"Billionaires are in a better position than millionaires. Do the players fold?"

This statement is the regular stupid hour when you consider most of the players aren't millionaires

The draft brings a flood of players looking to take jobs from those that came before them. You got aging players wanting to squeeze the most of what is left of their career in the NFL. It's not a battle or war the players can win.

we'll see if the players are this stupid

IMO...the owners also prefer lesser weed rules
the league gets an extra game and the stars take a huge pay cut to play it
the league gets two additional playoff games revenue
the product remains the players, anything less than 50/50 the players lose
32 owners are counting on 1700 players to fold their tent

greedy bastards

they could win but well over 50% can't afford it.
The players should walk out after week 15....let the owners lose playoff & TV revenue

Not a matter of being stupid for the majority of players. You can bet what ever the final contract is it will make the star players richer at the cost of the average player fighting to hold onto his job. Young players on the bubble are not going to benefit from a work stoppage. Neither is the aging player who has a season or two left to make money. Players are transitional, here today gone tomorrow. Small window to grab the money that the NFL gives them. The owners don't have that concern. Which is why the NFLPA will get their ass kicked every time and I mean every time. It's just a giant mismatch of power.

That would be cutting off your nose to spite your face. A rising tide lifts all boats, the players are benefiting from all the income coming in from TV and what not. Killing the golden goose benefits no one.

That's a lot of words for those highly educated players to work through. Numbers mixed in.

Well they don't have to worry about the 1700 or so just yet...Those 11 guys should each have someone smarter than them explaining line by line in laymen terms...I'm a little surprised 5 of the executive level guys voted yes....was thinking maybe 2 or 3 at most.

Negotiating. One side starts with a low offer , the other side comes back with a high offer and they meet somewhere in between.

Not with the NFLPA though. Usually it’s the owners low ball an offer, the players counter, then the owner low ball again and they accept.

The biggest blockade to this being signed or not seems to be mostly centered around the 17th game.

Most people that have done the math, realize the majority of NFL players make less than a million per season and many fall into the league minimum, or near it. The financial divide between the haves and have nots is even wider now than it ever has been as the payscale for the top players has escalated far greater than league minimum.

This CBA proposal addresses the common player moreso than other CBAs have in the past....the fact that 5 executive level player reps voted to send it to the players to vote and 6 voted against it shows the league minimum voice is getting louder.

IMO the big reason why MLB players enjoy a much better financial arrangement than NFL players in spite of the NFL making considerably more money...the NFL players have not taken the fight to the owners. All work stoppages will have come carnage from the labor side...but without it, there's no way to force the owners hand...ever.

The players have never really gained FA, they have a version of it, but the tag still controls the player.

The big problem is the same problem the players have had...The powers that be are the highest paid players...the majority rank and file have never properly prepared for a work stoppage, and therefore will never be able to sustain a walkout long even to make real change happen in the NFL for the players.

So...one thing we can count on...the owners will get their 17th game.

Did they ever consider an amnesty clause like the NBA used to have where you could amnesty one contract per season to get out from under it?

Imagine if you could amnesty a contract, still have to pay that person, but they would be cut and that money would not count against your cap.

Then imagine if you could trade an amnesty to another team?

Thoughts?

Russ has made his position clear......

The @NBA & @MLB are doing it right.
Players come first.

ALL @NFL players deserve the same.

WE should not rush the next 10 YEARS for Today’s satisfaction.

I VOTE NO.

The NFLPA is a mixed bag...and that's a huge part of their problem...maybe it was you, but somebody nailed it when they said, all the players are not millionaires. You have such a vast income range from the stars to the rank and file that it's impossible for them to have much in common when it comes to the CBA.

Low end...this is the brunt of the voting population, pay them $1 mil minimum.

Midlevel...vets on a 2nd contract...this is a shrinking voting population. Sprucing up the health benefits, life insurance, 401k, etc.

Upper level...these are the top players, most have cashed in on a second NFL contract, endorsements, etc. These guys always will make the most money...so maybe you tweak the tag situation to appease them, or give them more for the 17th game.

If the owners really wanted this to be a done deal....give them 50/50, but they should cater even more to the lowend...I mean up the minimum league pay to $1 mil per season. This would breeze through and the top end players really would have to go with it.

You can’t really look up to the MLB union at the moment because of how MLB organizations have evolved has actually made it worse than the NFLPA at the moment.

I think it's gonna pass. It's not the best deal. But the owners are smart. They made it more valuable to the lower level players. Guys on minimum contracts and shorter careers. They are gonna get paid more. There are way mire of them than stars. All they need is 51%
