Okay, so it began with a Foligno/Sid scrum after Foligno ran Fleury a few times, in which Sid's elbow caught Foligno in the chops:

So, that's an elbow, and it got a penalty. But seriously, it was a scrum, and that was not vicious. That happens most nights in NHL games...not exactly worried about Foligno's health, right?
"I just said you've been talking about it all summer, and then you go and do that," said Foligno. "I was just disappointed that he would do that. I fell over Fleury and Crosby is hitting me, so I look up, I see it's him, and I'm not going to do anything, and then he elbows me in the head. I just kind of got a little frustrated that he would do something like that, so I went back at him. It's not a big deal, but it is something he preached all summer about that we should limit that, and then he goes and does it, so I was just a little disappointed. But, you know, that's a small part of the game and it's over now."
So, the media in MTL pesters Sid and we get his response:

So, both guys explain themselves, it's not THAT big of a deal. Until Bryan Murray goes out of his way to make a comment on the situation. He got pretty chippy with both Sid and Blysma, stating that a butt end to the head is okay if you run the goalie for the Pens, etc. etc. And alluded to the fact that Neil and Carkner will be in the next game for the Sens on Dec. 16th.

Over-reaciton, Yeay or Nay?

My only problem is that Crosby elbowed him in the head and then coasted away without even looking back, knowing somebody would protect him.

I am sure Asham, Engelland, and MacIntyre are shaking in their skates.

Back on topic, didn't Backes punch Crosby in the head? Where was the uproar over that. Bottom line is it's hockey. Sid can get hit in the head and can give them out. Plain and simple.

That was more my point. Sid's comments basically said "I know what I'm getting myself into. If I go into a scrum I accept that I could get punched in the head." Meanwhile Foligno was basically acting like because it was Sid he couldn't do anything. NHLers don't have to handle him with kid-gloves, but know that like any other star player he'll be protected by the other guys on the team. Guys also have to know that he's gonna play chippy still...he did before the injury, he will now. Was it a bad play on his part? Sure, and he was penalized for it...but it's not suspension worthy or anything like that.

Yup, looked like a typical hockey scrum to me. Things have a tendency to percolate and get a little nasty.

What Murray alluded to is what gets to me. It was a 5-2 game with 17 minutes left when Crosby hit Foligno. After sid's minor was up, 15 minutes remained in a blowout. Do something about it at that point, instead of his "wait till next time" bs.

Yup, the last thing the league needs is a revenge and/or vendetta game...

That's what bothered me...it was a rather non-event. He was made because Foligno got 2 for roughing as well...okay, talk to the refs about it.

I wouldn't have stood up for Folognio if I had to square off with Kunitz - he's a convicted hair puller

Yup...I'd like to see Kunitz square off with Alex Burrows. Whoever comes away with the most hair wins.

What I don't like is that after he got his concussion, he spoke out about the hit and how it's a hit to the head that the league is trying to crack down on. He suffered through it and had to sit out this long.

Now he's going to elbow someone in the face?

I'm ok with it if we wasn't such a hypocrite. If he wants to start shit, then accept the consequences. Don't skate away like a little girl and don't let your teammates step if you are the one starting shit.

It's a tough situation for all of the players. If someone lays Crosby out they will be a villain even if it's a clean hit. On the other hand the honeymoon will be over with his injury and sooner or later if he wants to engage a player he will need to answer the bell.

My feeling is from what I have seen so far he has been in a situation to get smoked but the players seem to have backed off. It will not take too long before someone takes that shot and I don't care who is on the ice to help him out once the check is thrown it's to late for that....ask Lindros.

He is not being hypocritical. When he talked about hits to the head over the summer he meant those done by other players, not ones done by him in a scrum.
