Let's not forget that Spain lost 1-0 to the Swiss in their opener in the last World Cup.

And that worked out ok for them.

Meh... if Spain cared about Olympics Soccer (and sent their "A" team there), it would be a story but as it is... not so much, IMO.

This Spain squad isn't going to win jack. Not sure who exactly expected them to. /shrug

In the Olympics the teams are U23 with exception for three older players allowed, so Spain couldn't have sent their "A" team. But Spain are champions in U19 (2012) and U21 (2011) as well as World Champions (2010) and Euro Champions (2008, 2012), so the loss today was a real shocker. However, Japan deserved it today I think, and I'm also glad Spain lost the game. There needs to be a change in the top :)

Given that this is only 2-3 players from the Euro squad, not as big of a shock, but I know that the Spanish were favored to win it all.

William hill had japan winning at 8.5 to 1 and bodog had them at 9 to 1 so yah im sure this wasnt an upset :L

Its actually defending euro u19 and u21 champs not world champs in those categories ... Still doesnt mean they arent THE world soccer power right now

U look at their u19 showings:
Champions in 2006,7,11 and 12 (runners up in 2010)

While its true the olympic tournie is a second tier tournie in terms of world significance, This olympic team is stacked with those guys from 2010-12 teams

I meant Olympic gold, not an early round game against Japan.

Of course they were heavy favorites against Japan. Duh.

And with the players they sent from previous tournaments that have won in this (lesser) age category they were tournament favorites , duh

That Colombian skank just threw an elbow at Wambach's head. Then the team continues play with a player squirming. The unwritten rule is you hit it out intentional you ungrateful jerks!
