Took a hit in the corner, a pretty good one and on his way to the Flames bench he checked a linesman. He's saying essentially it was reactionary, and who knows if he was seeing stars after getting checked but pretty crazy. He's not known to be a dirty player like that, pretty bizarre to watch.

Wideman suspended for cross-checking linesman

My semi belief on this is he thought the linesman was an opposition player and wanted a little payback

I don't know how out of it he was, but no player in his right mind would hit a ref or linesman on purpose. I really believe that his bell was rung and he saw a body in a light sweater and went for retribution.

That's the only thing I can think of, I have never seen anything like that. Big delay in time between the time he got creamed and the check on the linesman, but he did look like he was kind of out of it when he got up to go back to the bench.

I don't think its even close to enough, the amount of the suspension tells me they did not believe he was dazed...which means they believe he did it purposefully, which in my opinion should be an actual huge suspension or even booted from the league. That was a pretty brutal hit on the linesman and should be made an example of

Agreed, if you watch the video he clearly looks up, lines the ref up and then extends his hands out. His statement said he was dazed, keeling over and then looked up and saw the ref at the last minute. That is clearly not the case and he is lucky he only got 20.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn!

I think 20 games is not enough, but you also have to take into consideration he is not known as a dirty player but the NHL did say he suffered a concussion.

Salomaki got him good, it was from the side and I can see where Wideman would be pissed since he was hit in a somewhat defenseless position but it was clean and not directed towards the head. Maybe he thought there should have been a penalty and when there wasn't he leveled the zebra.

isn't 20 games the standard suspension for this?

For destroying a linesman? Are you saying there is no difference between a player and linesman?
