Hey, don't sleep on that Buick. Grand Nationals are very popular (and fast).

Don't forget the late Road Runners/Super Coupes! My first car was very similar, a 79 Aspen (black two door, although it had the anemic but bulletproof 225 engine).

Yeah, I thought about adding it, and much like the AMC, (Which I almost didn't include) I thought looked pretty good!

Love the louvers on the quarter panel window and the hood scoop and spoiler makes this a step above the others I posted, which just looked awkward.

Here's some of the Makes and Models that were too cool for the late 70's/80's.

I've heard this rumor for awhile, and I've already warned Wifey that if and when they do come out with a throw back Firebird, that we will eventually end up with one in the garage to sit next to the '67 I already have.

My '67 Firebird looks like this one below, except it has the dummy hood scoops that where OEM for all Firebird 400's offered for the first year pony car.

Mine desperately needs paint and some minor interior work, but for the most part it is mechanically sound after a lot of hard work, busted knuckles and more swear words than what my neighbors should have had to endure.

The original paint is the same color scheme shown below, and it too has the landau top. (I'm not sure the stripe shown below is OEM, but when I'm ready to paint, I plan to do a color change, and go to the OEM red, maybe add some custom pinstripes.

Numbers matching don't matter so much anymore, and besides I've done a lot of mechanical modifications to the motor & exhaust, and eventually I will install disc brakes all the way around.

Oh, and a buddy of mine just got a fuel injection system on his '70 Chevelle, it's pretty cool too! It's built so the air cleaner assembly fits right where it should, so you can't really tell it doesn't have a carb any longer, so it looks right. It also pairs up to your smart phone, so you can switch it from cruising mode to race mode and back again on the fly. :dingdingding:

Love that car Vita.

Wish I could afford an old school car like that.

My uncle has a 67 Camaro RS/SS that took him 10 years to restore ( alot of the work was done via barter ).

Wish I still had my 67 Coronet 440. It originally came with a 318, but someone had dropped a 383 in it before I bought it. Never had the money to fix it up though when I was younger, so I sold it.

Thanks ALR, I bought it in '94 for $1,000, believe it or not.

It was from the original owner who handed it down to his teenage son who threw a rod and smoked the transmission. So it wasn't complete but it was in good shape and priced to sell.

I pulled a 400 Pontiac engine from a Bonneville that was in pristine condition on the inside from a local salvage yard for $300, and :hope: that the block was in good shape. (I only needed the short block, since the kid only threw a rod) When we pulled the heads off the Bonneville, you could tell that car had been babied, and probably only had a blown head gasket, it sure looked that way, and that ended up being the case.

I picked up a Muncie 4 speed close ratio trans in Lomita, and it was laid out on a bench with not even two pieces put together. It was all there, but since it was all torn apart, I got the guy to drop his $200 asking price to $75! I did have to replace a couple of gears, and all the syncros, but once I added a new Hurst shifter to the drive train, the car came together quite nice.

Okay, I love talking about my car, and I've done a lot of other things to it too like adding a TA cam for instances, and some other trick stuff, but again I could go on and on about it.

The point is, I was exactly in your spot back then, I had a '67 Firebird Sprint (Red) in HS, and loved that car, I ended up trading it in for a '74 260Z that I loved and drove the wheels off, but I always regretted trading in the Firebird, so I started looking for a project car and found the 400 I just told you about.

So ALR, if you look good and hard for a project '67 Coronet 440, that needs a lot of repairs, you might be able to get a sweet deal like I did, and then you can build it just like you want it. :suds:

I've had a few classics in my past that I've let go; a '77 Formula Firebird and a '67 Mustang coupe. The Mustang was my 3 season daily driver for about 18 years, but it was over 100K on the rebuilt engine and needed rust work, so I let it go reluctantly to get my Magnum RT. These aren't pics of my cars, but are very similar...

Yep, but will be looking to change once I get the finances in order. 125K+ after buying it used about 6 years ago. Like the car overall, so may just change to a newer model of that platform, whether that's a Challenger, Charger or 300. As much as I should get something smaller and fuel efficient, I've been a V8 junkie since I got that 77 Formula.

Do you have kids to tote around in it?

Coupes are a bear when packing the kids in the back seat, and even worse if you have to install a car seat. Another one of my buddies has a late model Mustang and just keeps his two car seats in there all the time.

Your Magnum RT seems pretty practical and sporty if that's is your case.

Nope, no kids (single). Magnum was the cheapest path to a Hemi (and I liked the body style). Friends and family love the back seats with room for actual adults, but that doesn't come into play as much as I anticipated.

The stock wheels alone are worth big bucks as they are getting increasingly rare.

Everything is getting expensive Retro

Can't hardly touch a fixer for less than 3-4k ( and when I mean fixer, I mean no engine/tranny and body in rough shape ).

I bought my Coronet 440 back in '95 for $700 and it was a daily driver.

That car now would sell for 5k or more.

It's crazy how much even project muscle cars have gone up in the last several years

You really have to get an obscure / less desirable model to get a reasonable price these days. I've started looking to the early 60's Mopars for a potential future buy.
