That's actually kind of awesome. The shocker is they built a performing arts center, too.

Ugh. It's beautiful, but come on... I won't go into a rant here, but I think we all know how ridiculous this is.

That stadium is nicer than all but two stadiums currently used by the CFL...

Could have fixed a lot of crumbling schools, bought a lot of books, and hired a lot of teachers with that money....

Yeah, but I hear those Texas textbooks contain their own unique version of American history...

If the local community paid for it... hey, it's their money.

They apparently have a high school band with 800 students and the performing arts center also cost $60 million. The same bond also built 2 new elementary schools.

But the cash came straight from residents, in the form of a 2009 bond measure that passed with 63 percent—and also included funding for a performing arts center.

I realize all this. I realize that every time I drive past a massive new suburban high school with swimming pools, tennis courts, etc., that it was voted on and paid for by that specific community. It's just a dirty shame that in this country we can have poverty stricken schools that can barely afford to operate within five or six miles of brand new, overblown and wasteful schools.

What I'm saying, basically, is that it really sucks that we have to say to some kids "Hey, your school district blows donkey cock. Too bad you couldn't have been born in a rich community. Anyways, fuck off, kid".

no idea just pasted what is in the article.....i would assume most/all of it

I guess if its not tax payers money then so be it. hard to really argue it they are taking care of their own neighbourhood and kids. would love to see more money from richer areas help less fortunate but kind of a tough thing to do

I don't disagree with that. The way we fund our schools is pretty inequitable in this country.

I got a chuckle, and I'm just joning here, but I thought to myself... 'This is hilarious criticism from the guy who builds an ice rink in his back yard.' ;)

They should make kids from poor neighborhoods do groundskeeping and work in concessions in exchange for a good K-12 education.

I build it out of million dollar bills and then burn it every spring.
