The first woman in 55 years to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics is a Canadian - I think that's pretty cool.

Donna Strickland, a Canadian physicist, was awarded the 2018 prize jointly with Gérard Mourou, from France, for their work on generating high-intensity, ultra-short optical pulses. They share the award with an American, Arthur Ashkin, who at 96 becomes the oldest Nobel Laureate, for developing "optical tweezers."

Dr. Strickland, an associate professor who leads the ultrafast laser group at Waterloo, is the first Canadian woman to win the Nobel in physics and one of only three women in history to do so, including Marie Curie in 1903 and Maria Goeppert-Mayer in 1963.

j/k Congrats to Ms. Strickland. Never underestimate the U of Waterloo.:nono:

Spoken like it's your alma mater. Good thing Harvard_Oiler isn't around these parts, he'd have something to say (and not in a good way).

There's a group at my university who will be using these developments in their ultrafast spectroscopy work. It's very cool science, and it opens a window to some of the most perplexing sub-microscopic motions in nature.

Going right to the top of my Christmas list. Never did figure those darned things out.

as a kid (grade 6 or so) I had it down to about a minute and a half.
don't think I could even finish it now.

My wife (girlfriend at the time) once gave me generic (off-brand) ketchup. That mistake was never repeated.

the closest I came to leaving my wife was when she thought American Woman was a Lenny Kravitz song.
