Two things:

First of all, I don't understand why you guys don't like cats. They don't give a fuck about you or your possessions. They want your love, but it has to be on their terms. And they expect you to support them no matter how your life is going. Basically, they are like a hockey team, but with more hairballs (except for the Flyers, thanks Hartnell).

Second:

I'm trying to figure out why you would want maximum collateral damage given that everything you break... is yours.

Pay close attention to the "sleep induced stupor" part. If you're shooting at someone to defend yourself, and you're half-asleep, you probably aren't going to trust your accuracy, so you want that maximum spread to account for your own inaccuracy. Given a choice between survival with damaged possessions and death with intact possessions, I would take the former every time.

I couldn't have said it better myself.....

Fixing my door or wall is the least of my concerns if some rapist/robber/bigfoot/chumpacabra/endangered species/panda bear rolls into my bedroom at 2am.

Also, it is easy to see in the dark, and would likely scare the absolute shit of them.

I like cats, as a kid we always had a cat. I just have a dog now and prefer dogs. Mainly because of outdoor stuff I can do with the dog.

Except when your neighbor's cat shits in your yard/flowerbed, smelling up the outside of your house for days, or when they leave decapitated squirrels on your doorstep for your tramatized daughter to find, or when one of them gets in your fenced-in backyard and your dog chases after it protecting its territory and it scratches up your dog's ears to the point that he ends up with a lifetime of ear infection/hearing problems.

It's more a hate of cat owners that think they can just leave their animals out without a leash anytime they want without any consequences.
