Just heard hansen (the dude trying to buy the team) owns the trademarks, logos and name
/he also owns $55 million in land where he will be building the arena
Just bought more land last week for parking lots
An agreement was reached when the Sonics left that when the NBA returned to Seattle they would get the Supersonics name back.
Good news and bad. I didn't care when the NBA left Seattle, but I know a lot of people who loved the Sonics and they were gutted. So I know what the diehard fans of the Kings are going through now and I do feel bad for them. Not that the sympathy helps any, but the situation does suck. On the good news side, buying an NBA team was the last hold up to getting the new arena built. Once the sale is complete, the NHL coming to Seattle is only a matter of time. And that is very exciting.
The Kings, or more specifically Magoof entertainment was the biggest none government employer in the area.
Although the people here weren't making it easy on them by being uptight about a new arena. We are the capital city for the largest state in the union and we can't even get one freaking professional arena built? NCAA basketball won't play here anymore, lots of artists skip Sac because of the shit arena and people here bitch like it is owed to them by private companies.
I can't say that I will actually miss basketball but I was hoping that if we got a new arena that someday we could lure a minor league hockey team here.
official ... $525 shmill ... highest price an NBA team has ever sold for
only posted it here because NHL has to get off its ass and do something with this market pronto
What is the support like for the Canucks in Seattle? Lots of Vancouver fans? Are they indifferent? Just curious.
Not particularly. If someone is a fan of the NHL in Seattle odds are they are a Canucks fan, but they don't have a huge fanbase or following in the city.

Oh, okay. Interesting. Thanks, D. Seems like that would make the city more attractive to the NHL.
Why do you guys think they are trying so hard in Phoenix? I mean - the city is losing money, the team has little fanbase, etc. What do you guys think is the main motivation for them staying there? I know Bettman is an ass, but he must have a reason (even if it's wrong). Pride? Deal with the city?
