As much as I hate career politicians (and I do) that is pretty much made up about their salary and pension:

PolitiFact Rhode Island | Email message says members of Congress get a full pension for serving just one term

It is an old myth.

It doesn't say anything about length of term. Every time the government says it's running out of money, it's programs like SS and medicare that get mentioned as having no money even though Americans have been putting money in it for decades. Why are government salaries never in jeopardy? Or welfare checks? Military spending? That's all I'm saying.

I can't find it now, but I saw a graph showing a comparison, percentage-wise, between the raises congress has given themselves vs. them voting to raise the minimum wage.

They are truly gangsters without guns.

Exactly. Whenever there's a money problem, it's average Americans benefits that are on the line, not their salaries or benefits. BOTH parties. I'm just trying to make enough money to retire in Canada. From what I here, they pork their citizens a little less and at least use lube.

That gives me an idea for a new slogan for the US government.

"America: Don't worry, the blood will double as lube"

This is why we have "career politicians" which is insane. Politics is about elected representation and inherently should NOT be a career.

President = 6 year term

Rep = 4 year term, staggered

Senator = 6 year term

No immediate re-election. NONE. You sit a cycle if you serve. You WORK FOR THE ENTIRETY OF YOUR TERM. You DO NOT spend the last half of your term doing stump speeches and running for re-election.

If I sign a 2 year contract and spend the second year doing nothing but going on job interviews and looking for more work, i would be fired. A rep on a 2 year cycle literally does actual work for like 7 months, maybe.

This is insane and just a waste of money and time.

If you want to represent again, fine but you have to sit out a term. Absolutely NO stumping or running for election during your service time.

Sorry you want to spend your life paying taxes to the US government, and then come up here and drain our resources? Doesn't seem like a great deal for us. :confused:
