I hit a deer on the way into work this morning - Slammed on the brakes to miss the first one, but I clipped the second one with the left front end of my car (popped my turn indicator light out of its socket).

I don't know what was worse, the sickening sound as I hit the fawn, or those deer eyes that were looking back at me from the side of the road.

Will you bring some deer jerky to SportsHoopla tomorrow. That sounds scrumptious!:D

Sorry about your car. It's about that time of year here when deer rampant as fields are harvested.

I consider myself lucky that I wasn't driving too fast at the time and nobody was right behind me (i.e. smacking into me from behind). Also glad I was alone at the time (no need to traumatize the wife and daughters).

I had something similar happen to me, actually. Clipped a fawn as I stopped to miss a bigger deer. My signal popped out too. Scary shit. Also, my headlight went off center and I had to drop a couple hundred bucks to fix it to pass inspection.... It was in front of my land, out on our farm, so I shot it and called the game warden, who I happen to be pretty close to. They came and got it.

At night around here, I flash my brights to warn others if there are deer up ahead. Just a little thing I caution others to do.

Yeah, I've made the call.

It is really tough to look down at them. Now, I am an animal lover but I also am a huge fan of hunting and eat meat. One day I was walking my property and came across a deer that had been hit and had clearly broken it's back. Something had been gnawing at it's entire backside and it was still alive. That image still is stuck in my head. He just looked at me and bleeted this horrible sound. I ran back, grabbed one of our quads and a .357. It was one of the most disturbing things I have ever seen. Just thinking about the pain....

Of course, then I read that over 1,000 people are feared dead in a Mexican landslide and there's gunmen at the University of Texas terrorizing people...

Sorry to hear that dash. You did your best to get out of the way and there's nothing you can really do in a situation like that. You also handled it the right way by calling the trooper as well.

I saw a story on the news that made me ask what is going on in this world we live in

15 year old girl was beaten to death on a suburban vancouver park trail ... bad enough for you? how about this?

Meanwhile, on Facebook, as mourners logged in to share grief or offer condolences, they were being subjected to disgusting computer-altered photos.

Experts say Facebook “trolls” amuse themselves by finding and attacking memorial pages just to get under people’s skin.

“It is a page of solace and mourning, not your playground,” wrote one mourner in response to the photos on the page R.I.P. Laura Szendrei

Glad you're ok Dash. That's very scary and it is sad. But the most important thing is that you weren't hurt.

I remember a few years back when I was working a graveyard shift so I drove home from work in the dark. I had my license for probably 3 weeks or so and I was driving up a hill and right over the crest was a deer right in the middle of the road. By the time I saw it I couldn't do anything and I got so lucky that the deer was able to dart out of the way of my car with less than a second to spare. That rattled me pretty good and it took a few weeks before I was comfortable driving on that road again.

Honestly as fucked up as it sounds, the best thing to do in that situation is just keep going straight. Odds are there will be less damage to your car or yourself if you just hit the animal rather than swirve and possibly flip your car or go off the road...

Good to hear you're alright, Dash. Once my ma hit a deer not 2 miles from our house...on her birthday. She was alright, luckily. That was a night to remember.
