How are you feeling?
Lot better, thanks for asking. Antibiotics are wreaking havoc on my stomach, and I have been walking around a cybersecurity conference the last 2 days so I'm pretty tired. But a lot better than I did earlier in the week.

Perfect storm of working at home with an unemployed (hopefully not for long) spouse. She usually does a project or two a day but is mostly bored, which I get, but I can't really help with that.
So what I get is "conversations" like:

after sitting on the couch with her having coffee for maybe half an hour then going upstairs to begin work, maybe 3 minutes later she comes into the office, sits, and asks "Hey how's work today?"

walking to the kitchen with a cup in my hand "getting some water huh?"

walking across the hall to the bathroom "whatcha doing?"

I usually don't go into the office on Mondays. I actually volunteered to go in this Monday.
Good news and good news. My wife is in Texas visiting family this week and got a job, which she starts two days after she gets back. So the inane questions (thirsty huh?) will be stopping for a while.

My favorite exchange was her asking if I needed any help with work. I was working on something that was a bit above my knowledge level (I got thrown on this team suddenly 4 years ago and am still learning) and my coworker was out sick. I mentioned to her that I cannot complete that task until he is back. She asked twice if she could help me.

She was being nice but it was hard to resist answering "you know what, maybe a completely untrained set of eyes is exactly what this project needs".

People who cut through parking lots instead of going down the lanes. I had three cars in one parking lot do that to me at lunch. And the one person had the audacity to get pissed at me as they almost pulled out and hit my car.

I know the original meaning was different but I call these people Essoasso's. Yes I used to watch NNTN and sniglets were always great.

And @forty_three will appreciate this one. Jeeps, any raised jeep with big wheels on it and they spray all the mud and water all over the place due to their oversized tires. Got caught behind one today. I don't issues per se with folks doing this, even though as you notice most of the time people do this and NEVER take the thing off road, but the total disregard for others is what makes them some of the most obnoxious folks on the road.

The offers that I receive in the mail, one from my credit union and one from my work union, that entitle you to an additional $25,000 of accidental death and dismemberment insurance at no cost to you.

The catch is if you take the "free" insurance, somebody comes to your house to authorize the transaction and then they try to sell you more insurance and you can't get them out of your fucking house.

I've never been dumb enough to fall for it, but I just got another one in the mail today

When people start a social media post with the following phrase... "Sorry I'm so late posting this..."

First off, there isn't a deadline. It's just sharing. The timeliness isn't really important and 98% of your feed would have no idea if you were in Disney World last month, last week, or today. It does not matter at all. Second, how important do you think these pictures are to other people? There's a really strong argument for none of this is remotely important in general and I don't believe I've ever received a text or email from a tertiary friend saying "when are those vacation pics going up?!?!?"

I never post vacation pics while I am away, as I don't want anyone who may see them to know that I am away from my home. (even though I use a house sitter)

The process after that is
- take about a week to think about what pics are worthy
- forget about the whole thing, bacause who gives a shit.

My insta (fake name) consists of stuff I want to be able to retrieve quickly later to show people in person. Usually scuba related.

Lol. Exactly. And I'll usually do just like 4-5 photos at the most. Sometimes none. The box with the _(#)_+ over the picture on Facebook means you've done more photos than anyone cared to see. I have "friends" who will post 45 pictures from one god damn family dinner. You're literally burning fossil fuels for shit NOBODY is going to look at.

It's increasingly hard to justify participating or using social media at all. It not only has little social value, it's probably the most culpable single thing for the current state of the world.

One of my dad's life lessons to me, keep the booze high up so the wife can't reach.
My wife doesn't even drink, but I still have done it all my adult life. 20250605_101256.jpg

I'd take a family pic, but they are kind of all over the house.
Much to my wife's chagrin.
I'm still only at 2 (Epi Les Paul Special and a Squire Dreadnaught acoustic) but Guitar Center did just knock 75 off Lucille...

Think I'm up to 15 now.
There REALLY needs to be a good reason for me to add at this point.

The Japan opportunity fit the bill, but any new ones would have to be snuck in and hidden.

This is my approach with bicycles.

My biggest fear is that after I die, Mrs 43 will sell them for what I told her I paid for them.
