Yeah, that was brutal... whole team in tears. Heartbreaking.

PHELPS - #1 all-time Olympic medalist. Incredible. The best Olympic athlete of all-time is from...

And he had a substantial amount of training at:

That was one of my favorite Olympic evenings of all-time. Very cool stuff.

The women's team medal is always a big one I think, and it got me thinking, if you were to make a list of the Top 5 biggest medals in the games, what would they be.

Here's my list:
(1) Men's 100M dash - fastest man in the world
(2) Women's Individual All Around Gymnastics- gymnastics bigger for women than me, the crown of the sport
(3) Men's Decathlon - supposed to be world's greatest all around athlete
(4) Men's Team Football - most popular sport in the world, but can't be at the top b/c it's much less important than the World Cup

Hmmm, stuck at 4. Others are bigger depending on the celebrity brought to them. Like every Phelps race is big b/c he's a big star, but I can't think of a single swim race that is more important than another. And I don't think many of the team sports are that big except in places where that sport is popular.

Moroney's vault might have been the greatest sub-10 second performance I have ever seen in sports.

Not to nitpick, but supposedly soccer is more popular than football - but we all know the rest of the world is fucked up in the head, soooo.....

Yeah, don't know what wasn't perfect there. Damn French judge! ;)

Also, why does everything have to be out of 16 or 17. Why can't they use a 10 system. So much easier to follow. And "a perfect 16 and a half!!!" just doesn't sound as good. Bo Derek in "Perfect 17" sounds stu... actually, that sounds intriguing.

Damn it! And I was trying so hard not to be ethnocentric, too. Fine, baseball is my #5 then.

They base the maximum score on the difficulty. I think it's a better than going out of 10 for everything. It inherently gives credit for doing something harder, so the judges don't have to account for that when they score it.

I understand how the system works, dude. I've been watching gymnastics for almost 2 hours over the last week. I'm basically an expert. ;)

You could adjust the difficulties/deductions to fit into a 10 system, it would be easy to do. You just shift things proportionately. Of course you keep the difficulty, you just change the point values so it's easier to understand since most of the world is very familiar with base 10 math.

The issue with putting it in base-10 would be that you would have to cap the difficulty somewhere. With this system, the athletes set the maximum.

Also, why do you need to simplify scoring more? The biggest number wins. I mean, I might be a scientist and more comfortable with numbers, but I don't think it's too hard to follow. ;) :nerd:
