If you haven't watched this and are a fan of the NFL (and honestly it's relevant to any collision sport), please try to catch it. If you want to know why I get fired up about concussions, this documentary puts it into perspective basically. My opinion is multi-fold:

-The NFL and its commissioner have too much power, and it's dangerous. I actually did a 20 page research paper on commissioners power abuse in pro sports. There's a long history of ill-equipped INDIVIDUALS making decisions.
-NFL team doctors should probably be completely redone. I'm sure good ones exist, in fact I'm confident of it, but goodness gracious it is clear that they have a major conflict of interest. The mere fact that a RHEUMOTOLOGIST was in charge of their mild traumatic brain injury committee makes me want to vomit. The fact that said doctor was a head team physician also makes me nauseous. There's a REASON that doctors specialize in a certain direction: so they are experts in their chosen area. If this were a rural high school in need of a team doctor, I'd understand...but it's a billion dollar industry.
-Football could very well be going away soon (soon meaning 50 years). The thought that pops into my head is of gladiators. People once thought that it was okay to throw men to the lions and watch them fight for their lives...we know find that barbaric.
-There's more to be done. Plenty. Obviously the data isn't conclusive and there IS a selection bias. However, we know this: CTE is caused by microtrauma to the brain. Football involves repetitive blows to the head in many positions. Sooooooo? The question remains: what predisposes someone to this when looking at many football players? Why do only some exhibit this outward symptoms? I hope we find an answer.
-Finally: I love football. I AM a Pittsburgher after all. Heck, it gives me major job security. However, my children won't be playing it. Not tackle football.

Read once that ice hockey causes the most head injuries among youth sports. What makes this even worse is how ice hockey is generally the 5th most popular sport among kids. I think the world of ice hockey has a far greater responsibility to address head injuries than any other sport.

Hmm, sounds bad but I'm actually pleased to hear that hockey doesn't contribute to as many head injuries as I thought. Wonder if it's the same in Canada where the game is much more popular tho.

the NFL is the "league of denial" so obviously that makes the cfl the "minor league of denial"

Arash Madani ‏@ArashMadani now Asked a football operations executive with a #CFL team if he watched the Frontline doc. "Negative," he replied. Why? "I don't want to know."

watched it last night when i realised the Canucks were gonna call the Sharkies their daddy again (mid way through second period)

central theme i came away with (as they mention once or twice) is the nfls actions really look like the machinations of big tobacco circa mid 1980's
