I have low memory on my C drive. So I have to go through the Disk Clean-up process about every time I watch a youtube video.
But even when I uninstall rather big programs (open office, for example), the space doesn't seem to open back up.
(local disk now has 1.75 MB free of 30GB)

as a corollary, i have moved some stuff over to my D drive, but somehow now all of my documents and spreadsheets on that drive have become read-only.
It's a huge fucking pain in the ass.

sledge hammer and new laptop time?

low HD space? or Your RAM is low? two totally different problems.

You mean to tell me your HD is only 30GB?!?! How old is your Laptop? Operating System? How much RAM do you have?

*edit

if you move programs over to your d drive they become unusable. you have to reinstall them again if you are going to leave them there.

30GB is damn small for a HD. its weird that D has a larger capacity. Depending on your operating system, they can take up a lot of space and won't show up on your add/remove programs.

fuck it. PC's are so cheap these days, I'd rather save the headaches and upgrade to something more up to date.

from previous fuckups, I pretty much go here for many types of programs
Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com

I try to stay away from downloading directly from the publishers site. Cnet is guaranteed all programs virus/malware free and they have reviews for everything, so you get to choose for yourself what you need and what is good. Don't just take one mans advice from a hockey message board.

You should always leave at least 1 GB free on your hard drive for the following reasons.....

1. Most programs need temporary space in your hard drive in order to function. This temporary space will be cleared once you stop using the program but it needs that space while it's running.

2. Your web browser also needs temporary internet files to speed up browsing. If you don't have any fee space left for the web browser to save temporary internet files, you may notice a slow down when using your web browser.

3. If your hard drive is already fragmented, you will not be able to defrag it if your hard drive is almost full.

Bottom line is, a 30 GB hard drive just isn't big enough nowadays

alright, back up to 1.5 gigs clear.
that mean my posts will be faster, more concise, and with less spelling errors.
