Ignore me if this has already been asked, but i did not want to read any posts on this until I saw the movie and well, I am to lazy to look through them all:

Here is the thing:

If 4 minutes is equal to about 60 minutes and a flight from Sydney to LAX takes about 14 hours (minus an hour or so on eith end) shouldn't the dream have lasted like.....7-8 days??? Shouldn't they have woken up like an hour into the flight or so??

and wouldn't it become exponentially longer into the other dreams.....

there's a huge thread on it somewhere...however, that's why they have the kicks to move them back.

Yes, it should have, and it would have, but Fischer's subconscious was trained to defend him from extractors, which they didn't know before they got into the dream (which is why Cobb was so mad at Arthur, who was supposed to research for whether or not Fischer was trained). Since they had to run from Fischer's subconscious, which would have continued to chase them endlessly since there is not finite boundary on how many entities his mind could conjure, and thus had to bump everything up in time.

The idea was to spend at least half a week on level one, at least ten weeks on level two, and five years on level three (each level has a 20 times slower time rate), with boundaries at one week, six months, and ten years on each level, respectively, but that just wasn't possible with Fischer's subconscious chasing them, and death meaning they would end up in Limbo.

After the second kick on level one, when the van hit the water, they all got out and went to separate locations. Fischer and Eames went to one and stayed together, and the rest of the team to another. Since everything in the mission relevant to the plot of the movie had already happened, there was no need to show those six days they spent at level one. I would guess that since Eames was disguised as Browning and because the rest of the team was no longer anywhere near Fischer, Fischer's subconscious would cease to track them at that point anyway.

Yeah, I get that and I understand the speeding up of things, because his dreams were guarded by war criminals with automatic weapons. I am just saying, to maintain consistency, they should have woken up in like 45 minutes. I realize, for the sake of the movie, it was better to be at the end of the flight. Check the main board and we talked about it a bit as well.

Cobb and Saito woke up a lot later than everyone else. Cobb was looking for Saito for years, as you'll recall, in Limbo. Every hour on the plane was about 20 years in Limbo I would estimate, and it seemed that Saito was about 60-80 years older when Cobb found him, so that's a good 3 - 4 hours later that Cobb and Saito woke up than the rest of the team. I mean, it's not spot-on, but it's a lot closer.

But then explain how the business dude did not see the machine and the hookups and freak the eff out. That is what we were talking about over there.

they don't have to be connected to it the whole time...you'd be sedated for a long time, i'm sure the first people just took it off.

I get that but if the business dude wakes up after having the people from this flight in his dreams and notices that two of them are still hooked up, i just think he might be suspicious.

I think it is just an error in consistency in the film that I am nit picking about, but I still liked the movie.

Saito and Cobb didn't have to be kept under because they were in Limbo. They're stuck in a sleeping state while they're there, just like Cobb and Mal were when they got stuck in Limbo. They were in Limbo for 50 years, which would correlate to 2.5 hours in the real world. I feel like their experiment wasn't designed to last that long, and so the sedative likely wore off long before they woke up. But they stayed sleeping regardless. I'm guessing the attendant let the team wake up first by taking them off the sedative, and that Fischer was left on it until they had their stuff cleaned up, then they took him off it and just had to deal with closing the suitcase before his eyes opened, which is entirely feasible. Cobb and Arthur did it to Saito on the train, so there's no reason it couldn't have been done to Fischer on the plane.

But how could they have had the "kick" come in on Fisher later...I don't know, I am confusing myself at this point.

Even so, everyone should have woken up very early into the flight....

True, but I appreciate a movie that has an airtight plot wrapped up in a neat little package :)
