The act of hitting a baseball is not mental. A machine can pitch a ball to you at the same speed in the same direction every time and if you don't have good hand eye coordination, they you shouldn't even bother trying to play once you have to guess what a pitcher is trying to do.

yes, but the act of hitting is all of that, so it is mental. You can't just take the mental part of hitting out and say hitting is not mental.

That's not hitting a pitch. Hitting a ball is easy, which is why tee drills and soft toss drills are used for centering the ball and working on swing mechanics. Live pitching it totally different.

I never worked harder at a sport than baseball. It was my favorite and my worst, and the only one (until rugby) that I could truly get into emotionally. When I was playing baseball, nothing else mattered.

Every sport is mental when you stop to think about it.

Chess is a very mental game, but you don't see someone getting 20+ million a year to play it in a League that is televised around the world.

When I first started trying to learn to hit switch, my swing looked like Ichiro's from the left side of the plate. But I have since evolved to Adam LaRoche's swing. Which might be worse.
