It's because the Final Four is a cash cow and the NCAA needs to make as much money as possible as it needs to not pay its players...

Back on point, because it's a cash cow, they want to have it in huge stadiums and domes where the seats on the ends are far away form the court - this makes the background much tougher to adjust to from being in arenas and gymnasiums all year. These courts are now all set up like a stage with the basket appearing to just sit there, dangling out of nothing. I've heard of bunch of mumblings from players it's not natural and hard to adjust to.

/The degenerate gambler in me likes to think of these missed free throws as merely legit point shaving - I miss the occassional point shaving scandal of the past- now it's all about paying players, faking grades, faking drug tests, etc.
