Verlander loses a guy after 12 pitches. That's something that batter will tell his grandchildren one day. What a battle.

According to the interwebs, the longest at bat was 28 pitches long, back in 1940. According to the story, Luke Appling fouled off 24 pitches in a single at bat. "That's when they took him out of the game and he cussed me all the way to the dugout."

On a similar note, Richie Ashburn once hit a fan with a foul ball - not unusual. What WAS unusual was that she was being carted away with a broken nose from the FIRST time he hit her in the at-bat.

Rough inning again. Doesn't have his control tonight. 2 run bomb for Betancourt. 2-0 heading to the bottom of the third. Need the offense to step up. They need to be patient though, had 2 guys on last inning with back to back walks, then Barmes 3 pitch K'd.

It's now 5-3. There were two balls hit out of the infield, I think 4BB, 2 infield hits, two errors. Just ridiculous. FOX is going on and on about how not having a DH made all that happen. Then get rid of the DH. Sorry, but in my mind, if you're an MLB player you should be able to hit and not be a liability in the field. The Royals usual DH is at first tonight, and botched what should've been a DP ball and only got one out from it. Well, he should practice how to feel a routine ground ball then.
