I wish I hadn't gotten behind on this book. I won't finish it on time, and I'm just reading enough to write my response paper, but over the summer I plan on reading it in full. It's just full of awesome information.

When cesspits were common, the nightsoil men who cleaned them had perhaps the worst job ever. One had to descend into the pit and shovel the... contents... into buckets, which a second hauled up, and the third and fourth took to a cart. They worked by lanterns, and because of the gaseousness of the environment, many were either overtaken and asphyxiated or died in lantern explosions. Can you imagine?

Dude's are typically denoted as such because of some pretentious characteristic, so I can see why you would be displeased with them.

EDIT: I know this happens often, but my incredible levels of nerdiness really came through in this post. It's really obnoxious, actually.

You were expecting otherwise? You vented about dudes to a bunch of dudes (and at least one dweeb). Of course, if any of us are to legitimately make you feel better, we'll need some more details.
