That sort of stuff is cool to think about, but I prefer more practical science. I want to actually apply and do something with what I learn.

Oh absolutely. I used to love doing relativity problems because they were just so out there. Not a single problem was realistically feasible given our current technology, but that didn't make it any less fun to figure out how long it would take a message being sent from Earth to a UFO traveling away from Earth at 1/5th the speed of light in the Earth's proper time. That was the goofiest stretch of Physics I learned.
