and Clapton had to bring in Duane Allman to punch up the solos on Layla

aaaaaaand, Harrison played guitar on Cream's "Badge"
he was cool enough to use a pseudonym (as L'Angelo Misterioso)

so there.

lol... I thought Allman just wrote the lick to Layla, I didn't know he played on it. I was just being a dick though, although the story I heard is that Harrison didn't think he could play the guitar on "Weeps" himself, or at least not as well as he wanted it to sound so he brought in Slowhand.

yeah that makes sense, Clapton was simply a magician on the axe back then.
almost God-like, if you will.

Allman did the slide-work on Layla, to my understanding.

I like Johnny Rivers (Memphis!) and Sam the Sham.

I went out dancing with some friends tonight and caught the last train home. A handsome young man was playing "Blackbird" by the Beatles outside of my subway stop at midnight. I threw a ten in the guitar case because I freaking love that song and I probably listened to it four times today but his rendition in the rain in the middle of the night was the best one so far.

AND GOODNIGHT.

I love street music. There's usually that little extra bit of feeling in it that you can't get from the recording. I also love campfire music, and I have a friend who does a rendition of "Mariner's Revenge Song" that is just so much more twisted and demented than the Decemberists' original. It's awesome.

Memphis is an awesome song. I play it all the time.
