If he hits 50 a year, less so, but still
If he hits 50 a year, less so, but still
What a mature board. =P
He OPSes well, but he's not a good baserunner and he plays terrible defense. It's not a massive overpayment, but I would have capped at around $10 - 12 million, leaning more toward the 10 side.
He's a beter fielder than you think. He has mental lapses, but he makes the plays he should make most of the time. Probibly high bottom 3rd in fielding at first base in fielding, but not the worst
Bottom third defensive players have negative defensive value. His bat's worth about $15 million. His legs are worth -$1 million, and his glove is worth about -$3 million. Thus he's worth between $10 - 12 million, in my opinion.
Then again, it is free agency, so overpayment should be expected.
see, $10-12 sounds about right, but I think you have his legs and his glove backwards
While I agree his legs are worse than his glove, his glove has more impact than his legs. He hits for enough bases that his poor baserunning is largely negated. It's more difficult for him to negate his poor defense.
I do see your point, but the most likely scenario is that he will be DHing there you are only really paying for 2/3 of his game. Either way, I think he is a bit overpayed, but not "WHAT ARE THEY THINKING" overpayed like Jeter will be
Paying for 2/3 of his game makes it worse that they overpaid for him, but I suppose he at least can't hurt them defensively as a DH. And Jeter's been "What are they thinking?" overpaid for years now...
The agrument that he brings leadership to the team is BS, because leadership in baseball is practically non existent
Looks like Rivera re-signed.
The sport is too individual for there to be real leadership. Some players have it, others don't. The more players who have it a team has, the better the team. That's all it comes down to.
Shocking!
