Prop 19 (initiative to legalize maryjane in the State of California) is defeated. That's a shame.

that sucks. I don't think I've had a puff since college, but it really should be decriminalized.

Treat it like alcohol.... regulate it, and tax it.
hell, same goes for prostitution.

there was a good story in the saturday sun about what a yes vote would have meant for BC ... cant find it but they repeated verbatim a couple of lines of copy in a story that is posted today

The spectre of marijuana legalization in California prompted speculation in recent weeks that the marijuana industry in Canada, particularly in B.C., could be dealt a huge blow if the initiative had passed.

Marijuana production generates $3 to $4 billion in B.C. and much of the demand for “B.C. bud” comes from users south of the border, Darryl Plecas a professor at the University of the Fraser Valley in Abbotsford, B.C., has said.

It is pretty much now decriminalized.

You only get a $100 ticket if you are caught with less than an oz-no jail time

that's still against the law, and more importantly, is still an underground economy.
legalize, regulate, tax.

yeah, a little. Kinda surprised, but not really (not sure why he was still hanging around?)

Now that would be funny :)

Carole James has already had issues with the NDP caucus and no-one thinks her personna screams leader ... shes a 2 time loser ... start fresh NDP

maybe continue the provincial hinterland political alienation theme with yet another former Vancouver mayor leading the province ... Gregor Robinson (edit/ or even Gregor Robertson - lol)

Im sure the people of Burns Lake would enjoy a fresh set of bike lanes

I have to say I enjoy BC politics a heck of a lot more than Alberta politics...Much more and better mud slinging and unpredictability.

legalize, regulate, tax.

I agree with this. Underground economies are harmful to nations both in the face that it's a lost money stream and in that they often inevitably lead to violent crime. The tax money for marijuana could be huge, and consequently could be put in very good use in various ways.

I guess it just makes too much sense to have actually passed...
