You are going to believe what you want, but the majority of coaches and programs are trying their best to do things right. The wording of a lot of the NCAA rules does not help, but this is not as rogue as people make it out to be based on 8-10 programs.

It is at the most 10-12 players on a team.

It is at most 10% of all of the teams.

You are making some pretty hefty generalizations about an entire culture based on a pretty damn small number. I thought that we as a nation and a people had moved past such things.

I'm not saying every player on a big time school is getting a Lambo, or that every team is going to this type of extreme with their recruiting violations. I agree with you that most coaches/administrations try to play by the rules, but there is just too much competition and money at stake for them not to "bend the rules". I obviously don't have facts or proof to back this up because I'm not sitting there during these recruiting trips, but it's just a little too suspicious and questionable for me to turn a blind eye and pretend it's not happening.

Disagree. There have been plenty in the know that claim that team's "bend the rules" all the time. Realistically what is the difference between say Michigan and Ohio State? The two schools are nearly identical, so if you are a recruit that is on the fence what is swaying you?

i dont see how that's true.. ann arbor is not columbus first off.. brand new coaches at both schools, i'll buy that.. lots of tradition at both, i'll buy that.. but its different traditions.. you can see the directions of schools, michigan is on the rise (after quite a few down years), while ohio state has been at the top for years but is in trouble with the NCAA now and looks to be on the decline..

and it actually kind of bothers me when people say its unfair for the people there getting punished for past players.. to an extent i agree, but sometimes you're signing up for it.. i dont feel bad for the players at UNC or Miami at all.. butch davis had a history of getting in trouble with the NCAA, and miami has loads of history of being in trouble.. going there without thinking there is a possibility that violations could come down is just being ignorant.. if you want to play for a school go somewhere that doesn't have the history of cheating / paying players, etc..

and guess what, if they're thinking about giving you extra benefits to convince you to come to their school, they've probably done it in the past.. and right there you should know they are risking getting in trouble..

how players act after their college careers gives you an idea of how they were taught and raised while they were in college.. when you see guys from miami getting arrested on a weekly basis or people from USC driving cars they obviously cant afford (OJ Mayo).. you can gather what kind of culture the school has, and if the culture is one that runs into a lot of trouble with the law and with authority, its a safe guess to think they might get investigated

(to eliminate some of my bias, i wouldn't blame anyone who hesitated to go to VT because of what the Vick's have done off the field, regardless of sparkling Beamer's reputation is)

After all the heat Ohio State has taken this offseason, something even more scandalous somewhere else is exactly what they want to see. If I were them, I'd be picking out gift baskets this very moment. The only question is what to get for the team that already has (been illegally given) everything. If only they had some sort of conference championship rings...

Cash, prostitutes, jewelry, clothing, electronics, yachts, mansions, strip club junkets and, in one instance, an abortion.

seriously.... the stuff in Red... pretty sure that's more commonplace at big football schools than we all pretend to think isn't so.. i mean, who hasn't had a booster take him to a strip club, buy his hooker some electronics, clothing and and jewelry, and, of course that leads to an abortion, duh.

But how in the blue hell does anyone not notice a college kid suddenly living in a mansion or sporting offshore at South Beach in his new yacht?

Let's assume Miami gets the death penalty, is that the death of the ACC? I could see FSU, VT, and Clemson wanting out or getting poached by other conferences.

honestly miami has been a joke since joining the ACC.. they're probably the 5th or 6th best team in the conference since they joined

1. VT
2. FSU
3. GT
4. Clemson
5. UNC

have all been better than them, and NC State has had a season or two where they've been better too

miami since 2002 has been a complete joke. 90% of that credit goes to jacory harris. he's an awful qb.

BC is likely 2-3 on that list. Clemson and UNC have gotten a lot of hype but done nothing with it, much like Miami.

BC is a distant second to VT in wins and winnin percentage in the conferece. When you look at it, it is kind of amazing how dominant the Hokies have been. 4 titles in 7 years and 6 out of 7 times they were the highest ranked ACC team at the end of the season. The one season that they weren't......they finished one spot behind Wake.

And even in that season we beat the Baptist right out of Wake.

I think if Miami doesn't get the death penalty then no one ever will. If this is found to be true, they have to hit Miami hard or else people will think why not do it?

Besides...USC is a misdemeanor compared to this story and look what they got.

UNCs rap sheet is pretty fucking bad too. The hookers and abortions and shut are not there, but there was much more agent-player contact which is much worse than some of these other allegations in the eyes of the NCAA.

I that that it what you think because all of the focus is on the big time schools. What does the NCAA get out of punishing the smaller schools? not much at all. The NCAA tried going that route before but it didn't work. Now it's time to hurt the big schools where it hurts.

Miami needs a death penalty here. Schools are responsible for reporting their own violations. Yea, sometimes they don't know and the rest of the time they play dumb because the street runners go right to the players while the coaches turn the other way. This case, it involved coaches and administrators who should have blown the whistle. They did not. They will get hurt....bad

I wouldn't call SMU small at the time. Yea not a huge school, but a big time program. All those Texas schools were running wild and SMU led the way in impermissible benefits.

It wasn't SMU....

It was Morehouse College Soccer and MacMurray College Tennis, in the mid 2000s

I love when people throw around the term "death penalty".

I think it means, if you enter 46's home illegally, you may get the death penalty. But I feel like the term is hardly used by people...

Death Penalty - no doubt about it

No death penalty is neccessary.... By giving them the death penalty you are setting the standard for discipline with this type of stuff...

Think Miami should get the death penalty, but doubt anyone will ever get it again

Let's assume Miami gets the death penalty, is that the death of the ACC?

...Okay, maybe it's used every once in awhile.
