In Flanders fields the poppies grow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.

Thanks to all of the brave people who serve in the United States Military and to those who serve for our brothers to the North in Canada. I don't appreciate you guys enough, but I do appreciate you all for all that you guys do.

I had the opportunity to be in London on and for the few days leading up to Remembrance Day a few years ago.

Pretty amazing experience the way they celebrate it in a place like London.

Idea - All veterans should be able to make purchases tax free on Veteran's Day. Much thanks to all the vets out there. I've already given a "thank you" text to all my buddies that served. They really appreciate hearing that.

Just to add a bit of humor from my growing up years related to Veteran's Day...

Every year, my father, who served overseas in the Army, would complain (semi-jokingly) that he didn't get off from work on Veteran's Day, even though schools, post offices, etc. closed.

"How come they get off, when I - a veteran - don't?"

He's retired now, so he doesn't complain anymore.

a little late on my rant and i dont want to judge but (lol)

My wife, son and I along my mom and dad went to the remembrance day ceremony at our local park where the cenotaph is ... growing up my dad didnt push or make me do much ... didnt push me in sports ... didnt push me to get straight A's ... but one thing he always pushed me to do was to go to a ceremony every remembrance day to pay my respects and thank at least one veteran ... He grew up during the war in Northern Italy and I have only heard tidbits of what he went through because he never really wanted to talk about it but he was always happy to share the joy he felt the day a convoy of american tanks and vehicles rolled through his town and the soldiers handed out chocolate and bottles of Coca-cola to the kids

so on that note, just really seems unsavoury to me that at 11am yesterday at the same time all these remembrance day ceremonies were going on there were 3 hour lineups at the US-Canada border just south of vancouver as people decided it was the right day to do some cross border shopping

Do Americans wear poppies too, or is that a Canadian thing (because of the John McRae poem)
