Wtf... just got a pickguard that I ordered in the mail for my strat that would make the knobs and pick ups look like they were on fire... Flames are fucking pink. Lol, they did a horrible print job on this pickguard. Luckily they aren't assholes to deal with, they just suck at what they do.

Gonna exchange it for a transparent red to go with my sienna sunburst. I just wanna pick up some chrome knobs... Having a hard time finding a chrome s-1 volume knob.

Ampeg seems to have made a real comeback. My bro-inlaw recently bought, an Ampeg SVT series 300 watt Bass head and 4 by 10 cab. That thing is killer; too bad about his band though. :L

story?

Not too much of a story, other than big frog in small pond syndrome. They got a few spins from local radio a few years ago when they released a self-produced/indie CD, prompting them to believe they were going to be "the next thing". Yes, good luck with 45 years olds playing essentially stuff that was considered pretty much uncool, even by 1982 standards.

Anyways, just a total facepalm when you consider it cost them over 15,000 dollars to produce their CD and they probably managed to sell/giveaway to friends about 200 -- max!

They manage a few gigs in town, but only with the 40 plus crowd (accent on "plus"), and even then, it's only if they play 70's/80's cover tunes; nobody wants to hear their "originals". And that's straight from the bro-inlaw.

...it was almost like something out of Spinal Tap when they got hired and played at a local seniors home...lol

I've only used small Laney solid state combo amps which were supplied in college back in the late 80's. They were ok'ish, but what you're looking for is a completely different animal so I'm not of much use on this one.

Earlier in the thread, you mentioned Vox amps. I've played a new AC30 before and it was fairly impressive, especially if you're looking for that classic 60's tone. To be honest, my Seymour Duncan 84-40 is very Vox like with the EL-84 power tubes and of course, the Weber Blue Dog Alnico speaker which I swapped in -- a highly regarded replacement for the Celestion Blue speaker which comes stock in Vox's now.

I used to own an early 80's Peavey Roadmaster 160 watt tube head. The one thing about it (and other large amps) is that they don't sound that great (at least not to me) until they're turned up substantially (which can be a problem in apts). Playing live however, that sucker never let me down and I never felt drowned out. Pros and cons, I guess.

EDIT: Damn that bastid had a lot of tubes in it...12 as I recall

I'm beginning to hate arpeggios. I've been working on sweep arpeggios and its pissing me off.

I never did catch onto the sweep thing; didn't stop me from incorporating arps and triads into my playing, though.

They're a pain in the ass... The scales sound sweet, but in my playing style they gotta be played lightning fast. Just aint happening, lol. I'll keep working on it though.

Don't feel bad. After almost 30 years of playing right handed, I've recently had to literally turn the guitar upside/backwards and play it left handed now because of a condition. Sucks, but whatta ya do.

I actually am getting somewhere with finger-style, but using a pick is still a real adventure.

holy shit... that must be a hell of a mental exercise.
did you re-string, or just re-learn the chords upside down?

I would assume restringing would be a tad easier of a transition.
