I went to the world cup when it was in the U.S. in 1994. Even though I was only 5 it was still one of the coolest sports events I've ever been to.

Well...it may be the US's turn in 2026 then. They should work on their bid now (although China somehow thinks they have dibs on it). It's already been in Europe (4 years ago), Africa (this year), will be in South America soon (2014), "Asia" in 2018 (Russia is kinda on it's own, but still Asia), and Middle East in 2022. Basically it's North America's turn...
I hear Antarctica is putting together a pretty strong bid
They certainly could line FIFA's pockets with their...errr...whale blubber money. (Sorry...that's all I got...not like they have a big return in taxes.)

This reminds me a bit of how they used to handle the WJHC. They would go anywhere but Canada for a while.
What's wrong with England for 2018? Or how about Spain/Portugal? That would have been great.
If they want to grow the game (hardly possibly at this point) why wouldn't they go to one of the most populous nations on the planet, Indonesia.
Dash has it right. This is all about the cash.
Has the US held ANY major soccer Tourney since 94? Not including the Women's WC (which was still only a few years after that...although twice), because that's just different...in the Women's case there are far fewer countries that can handle it (have to be more developed and...well, accepting of women in sport really).
Plus in '02 it was in Korea/Japan which is more Asia than Russia. So North America hasn't held a WC the longest time of any other continent
I think Canada should put a bid in for 2026. Let them have it.
