If anyone wants to read a modern day retelling of David Copperfield but set in 90's Appalachia - I'd recommend Demon Copperhead. It sounds like a terrible terrible idea, but was pretty great.
That guy is a good writer. He also had a Short Story Thursday mailing list for a couple years. Pretty cool guy. I think now he is just the drummer in Cigarettes After Sex. Hopefully he is well, he used to frequently post about wanting to kill himself.
