Do any of you guys/glas play Axis & Allies?

I love the game and a group of my friends and I are throwing down on the 1940 Global version this weekend.

I used to love that game when I was younger. Have it in a closet somewhere, but have not played it in a long time.

I've only ever lost once. So, if you are playing Eloco in Axis and Allies, it's pretty safe to say...

On the other end of the spectrum, anyone ever played a gangster card game called The Boss?

It's really interesting, but man do I suck at it.

Cards Against Humanity

It's just like the game Apples to Apples if you've played that, only for deranged people. Great game to play while boozing.

lol loved playing that game

ill remember this winning hand and the reactions of everyone we played with probably for the rest of my life lmao :

^
the teller didnt understand the game from my explanation (my fault probably since i was trying to be discreet) so I bluntly gave her the results of a winning hand to paint the picture

black card: "After the earthquake, Sean Penn brought (fill in the blank) to Haiti"
white card played and judged to be the winner: "AIDS"

now when she sees me get in line she kinda turns and looks like shes doing other things shuffling papers, so another teller can help me

its a shame too because i enjoyed standing in front of her ... fake looking at my iphone while staring at her nice breasts

Have not thought of that game since the early 80s
Also a game called Diplomacy. Used to play that one all the time as well

ME! I play the Spring 1942 edition vs the computer online and haven't lost in over a year. Although, frankly, that is not much of an achievement...the computer isn't very strong.

I also play solitaire Axis and Allies and have still yet to lose a game.

I have a proposal. You play a game against yourself and I'll play a game against myself and let's see who wins! ;)

Favorite board game right now is Stone Age. Very balanced good game with no clear cut strategy for how to win.

I've never heard of it or Diplomacy. What are they like?

Diplomacy is a game of talking other people into helping you rule the world. You make deals to take over areas but you can sign a deal in blood and still stab the person in the back. The trick was knowing when to be honest and when to double cross

Look, all this talk about you two playing with yourselves is making me very uncomfortable.

The only think I didn't like about Axis and Allies was the set starting position. If they had taken Axis & Allies gameplay into a more generic, Risk-type set-up, I would have loved it. (Maybe they did, but not in the version I played.)

Lately I've gotten much more into the "German-style" board games. Started with Catan, but I've graduated to Agricola and currently giving Caylus a try. Very different style.

Never played Axis & Allies but I often hear it compared to Risk, which is 1 of my favourite board games (despite how long it takes). Most people that have played both will tell me that A&A is the better of the 2 games.

I recently started playing another game that is similar to Risk in some ways but doesn't take as long, called Small World. A friend recently bought it and we play it once every couple of weeks. Instead of being based on WWII or other wars in history it's based on fantasy. It has a lot of different fictional races, many of which would have appeared in LOTR. Each race has different advantages and disadvantages and each is randomly assigned different additional powers each game. I've never played D&D but my friend who owns it says it's like a cross between D&D and Risk. I would also add that it's similar to Chess too because dice rolling plays a very small part in this game. Most of it is based on how you chose to position yourself and move your men.

I cosign the part about Axis and Allies being a much better version of Risk.

I've won exactly one Axis vs. Allies game ever. Took an economic victory from a guy with a ton more experience than I had. He was all like, "Okay, your turn." I was all like, "Nope, I just won when you ended turn." He was confused, and I pointed it out to him. His response: "Oh, shit, I completely forgot that was a thing!"

He then proceeded to thrash me as normal for all further games.

Dude. I have discovered an online site that allows you to play Diplomacy. I'm hooked. A beautiful game.
