Never had allergies until a couple of years ago. I know some areas of the country can be worse than others. It probably depends on what your issues are. Mine are fresh cut grass and rag weed.

What OTC meds have you found work best. When I go to S Carolina it's brutal sometimes !!

:sneeze:

LOL, I meant to put this in the WC because there are more southerners in there. Oh well, I'll put it in both forums. Things are slow anyway.

Benedryl is one of the best and safest but makes some people drowsy so try that one at home. Out of the others Claritin and Zyrtec are good. Some work better for some people, whether its because of the people or their allergies I am not sure. Allegra is decent too.

I never had them until I was in my 20s then my ears started giving me problems. Since then I have tried most of those with decent success. The three above are better than some of the older ones because they do not affect you otherwise as much as some of the older antihistamines.

I live in the desert and have a dust allergy. A generic version of Claritin does just fine for me, largely taking care of the runny nose and sinus pressure, but I also need eye drops to keep my eyes from drying out and my contact lenses from scratching my corneas when I remove them.

Actually dusting my room helped a great deal, too...

Yep I tried it and it made me drowsy too. Zyrtec is one a few people have mentioned as being pretty good.

I get the generic version of Zyrtec (Cetirizine) at Sam's Club for $16 for 400-count. I see Amazon has 100-count bottles for $4 but you pay shipping on that.

NC is terrible. I had a friend in the area who had to move because his 1 year old son suffered such severe seasonal allergies. They kept taking him to the Dr. who told him that they didn't have anything strong enough that was safe to give to a 1 year old.

My wife is allergic to the world...she uses Benedryll and sometimes Zyrtec.

My wife has to carry around an epipen for fear of a severe attack. Lobster would kill her but crab doesnt do anything to her...weird how some shellfish affects her but others wont.

Another weird one is the red dye number 5 or whatever is in alot of foods and drinks

My wife has food allergies too. Some people who never heard of them look at those afflicted like they are crazy.

"Im sorry I asked for this with no lettuce, and I cannot just take it off". I am sure she gets it remade with extra spit.

we try our best to stick with places that she is comfortable with. We had to move tables one time because a guy at the table next to us ordered lobster and just it spraying in the air near her was making it hard to breate...

I use Loratadine (generic Claritin). I get it at Sam's Club. Lots of pills for a very low price. One 10 mg pill lasts 24 hours. Works like a charm for me. It's also non drowsy.
