I just wanted to tip my hat in your direction and hope we have a stellar performance for the rest of the nation's baseball fans to see. I know you haven't ended the season the way you'd like and that there might be misgivings by some fans. I had to say this, though... if we don't win the game on friday I'll be pulling for the Rangers to go the rest of the way. I (obviously) hate the Yankees and I'm indifferent with Detroit, but when my team couldn't be in the playoffs these past coupla years I always kinda rooted for the Rangers to get their ring.

When I think of the Rangers, I think of the big-time hitters from my younger days.. Will Clark, Larry Parrish, Pete Incaviglia and, yes, Rafael Palmeiro.. and I always admired the way they soldiered on when the pitching wasn't there for them. And even though, on the face of it, one would think I'd be keen on Oakland doing as well as they've done this year (coming from my own team's similar circumstances), I have to say I'm not an Oakland fan. Maybe it's because that team blocked what could have been a pretty good run for the O's in the early 70s, maybe it's because I couldn't stand the Canseco-McGwire-Stewart group of the late 80s/early 90s.. I dunno. But that dislike has held, even if the baseball pundits say I should admire Billy Beane and his ability to make a small-market team competitive.

So here's hoping for a good game on friday.

I wouldn't consider it playoffs either since it's just a one game elimination. Would rather just go with #1 division leader meeting winner of an LDS series between #2 and #3.

The Players haven't really accepted it as the Post Season. right now its to get into the Regular Tournament. Still should be a Series. Not just One game.

The only reason it is good as a one game match is because it creates a bigger incentive to try to win the division which is exactly what they were hoping it would do when they added an extra wild card.

I think part of the reason its good that it is a 1 gamer is not only to incentivize winning the division but it is also a punishment of sorts for the teams in the aspect that they sort of mess up their rotation too. If you start your ace in the 1 game playoff then you cant have him 2 times in the wildcard round. To me its not fair to have a 5 game series in the wild card round when a team can go 85-77 and have a Verlander type go 2 times in a series vs a team that won 99 games in the regular season. The 1 game means that you either start your ace to try and win or you sit him and hope your other guy wins to set you up for the next round.

I was thinking it would a 3 Game Series in the Wildcard Playoffs. But Baseball can only extend their Playoffs so much. If the Baseball Season goes into the Second Week of November it gets very rainy and cold in a lot of cities. This makes it more difficult to play the World Series.
