As for Matt Wieters I think this arm issue might be the thing that finally moves him over to 1B. Yes, I know he has been a great defensive catcher, but this arm injury might change that a bit and Caleb Joseph has been doing a lot better than I thought he would. The Orioles also have Sisco up and coming. Chris Davis is probably not going to be retained after this season and that leaves a huge hole at 1B, so what do you do?

The Orioles are not going to go out and spend a ton of money on big name free agent 1B. They are not going to pay Chris Davis a ton of money. So what are your options.

1) You see what Steve Pearce does this season and see if he has any potential at all of being a cheap option as a starter. He's off to a cold start, but the season doesn't end today.

2) You move Paredes to 1B and see if that bat stays hot...but this is unlikely.

3) Hope Matt Wieters gets healthy enough, you play him at DH to see where his bat is at, and then you have him train all off season to play 1B. He's hit for quite a bit of power and I think his bat would pick up a bit more when he's not getting beat up behind the plate for 150+ games a year.

Wieters has a track record that these other guys do not. The only question mark with him is if that arm affects him at the plate. There was talk about him probably needing to move to 1B eventually anyway with how big he is and to save his knees. This injury perhaps puts the move in motion a bit sooner.

man i'm pretty sure both davis and matt are fa this year . paredes but maybe move nolan to first and get speed in davis , uuuuu ,alvarez . i think caleb is a cheap option but he does play of and first base .

gausman to dl and buck brings up ole faithful tj . i'm getting tired of bucks hard headed shit . wright and steve johnson are both doing better

Steve Johnson has had his chances in the past and he's always come up short. TJ MacFarland is a lefty that can be used in relief or as an emergency spot starter. So there is a bit of a method to his madness. I understand Steve has a great ERA in what, four starts in AAA right now so those are encouraging signs. I am sure if "Dud" Norris doesn't get himself straightened out soon that a move will be made. 3/5 of the rotation is doing rather well, but Tillman is also looking bad. He's going to get a long leash though.

As for Nolan, I don't think you can pencil him in as a starter anywhere. He's never stayed healthy for a full season in the majors and you don't really know what he will do in that role. Unfortunately there are lingering questions about him too.

Matt and Chris Davis are both FA at the end of this season. Of the two if they are going to keep one, I think they have a bit more bargaining power with Matt and Matt is a switch hitter with power from both sides of the plate. If it were my money I would bet on Matt to return to form and possibly hit even better at 1B with that wear and tear of catcher no longer upon him. I'd like to see Caleb turn in a good season this year and at least defensively it looks like he can handle the job. The offense is starting to come around too. I don't care if he hits for a big average. If you can get 20-25HR from your catcher spot, you're looking good.

If by "Uuuu" you mean Henry Urrutia....that guy is a swing and a miss by this staff. He's what, 29 already and hasn't really shown any promise yet. I think that ship is sailing after this season. It was a good risk/reward move, but it flopped. Time to find and answer for the two corner OF spots next year.

The Phillies have acquired infielder Jayson Nix from the Orioles for cash considerations, the teams have announced.
